  • Built like a tank, perfect for daytime outdoor use

The first thing you notice about this lens is its sheer mass. It is a hulking piece of glass and steel totaling in excess of six pounds. Shooting with it without a monopod requires the fitness of a young Schwarzy. What you get is almost unbeatable for the price, though. The range is amazing and let me cover an entire soccer field with ease, always filling the frame with my subject. The lens is not super-fast, but during daylight outdoor sport shootings I would rarely go below f6.3 anyway. The focus is sharp, quick and I was always able to get the shot I wanted. I got this lens when I started covering semi-professionally a youth soccer league and the customer has been quite happy with the result. Considering the alternatives, for a lens of this generation this is the only option for a rugged lens that you can use in any weather and that gives you the flexibility of the 150-600. The other options are either much pricier or less durable for the environment I would need to work in. I am quite happy with my purchase. Did I mention you need to get a monopod?

  • Sigma Sports Zoom: Autofocus and Image Quality Assessment

This zoom lens offers fast autofocus performance relative to its size, with effective tracking capabilities. This makes it a versatile option for amateur wildlife photography. While my experience with wildlife photography is limited, I have been satisfied with the image quality produced by this Sigma Sports lens. The lens's weight necessitates the use of a monopod for extended periods. After resolving initial filter compatibility issues, I achieved satisfactory results. Images exhibit high clarity and accurate color reproduction. I intend to further evaluate its performance in bird photography and astrophotography applications.

  • Excellent lens, but requires fine-tuning

Sigma is now dedicated to producing top-quality lenses, and gives Nikon and Canon great competition. This lens is a good example. Be sure you get the SPORT model for best IQ, not the contemporary or Art. This lens is fairly heavy, but way less than the Nikon 500mm prime I usually drag around and hand-hold. Construction and weather-sealing are top-quality. I'm very tired of dragging the 300 and 500 all over the world, and hope and pray this lens is the solution (so does my husband, who is usually the Sherpa). This is a lens that requires fine-tuning to match it to your camera. This is a tedious process, and time-consuming process - but well worth it. There are other pros that fine-tune lenses as part of their business, and I'd highly recommend using one. EJ Peiker on Naturescapes.net is one and the guy I used. Lens went for "quite ok" to "tack-sharp" with his 6 hours of work for $200. Sandy R

  • Excellent Lens

This is an excellent lens. Images are very sharp. As everyone has said it is heavy at 6+ lbs and it is really well made. Very solid. The zoom ring is a little cumbersome, but I've found that just pulling and pushing the the lens to zoom works very well. I've had good luck with locking AF onto fast moving birds with it.

  • Great Prosumer Grade Glass

This Sigma lens is HEAVY !!! Now that's out of the way it's everything a lens should be at this price point and more. Mounted on the support of your choice it should impress even the most discerning shooter. This lens definitely took my photography to the next level and should do the same for you. Stop thinking about it and just buy it !!!

  • High end lens reasonable cost

I used the lens for a fiddle contest and got incredible images from the back of the barn venue. Long shots of mountain features look I climbed up and got a close up. So far I am thrilled with the lens.
