Does its job but could be better.
Excellent product. Adds a nice grip to the phone which I really like. The black edges are textured which really help, especially considering how slippery and thin the phone is without it. I like that it adds volume to the phone, and it is comfortable to hold and use. Capable of wireless charging. Came with a noticable scratch/gouge in it, same with the other one I purchased, so im assuming that is a manufacturer thing as they were sold by two separate stores. One online, one in person. There are pros and cons though. Pro is that it is clear, so you can slip photos or stickers between the case and the back of the phone, can see the color of the phone, etc. Con is that I personally think it's ugly as compared to the single color cases. Even though I can see the washed out purple of my phone's natural color, the difference between the gloss of the case and the glass of the phone is distracting, and I would've rather had the option of a case that matched the phone's color, or a more saturated purple. This is the most protective case for the Z Flip that Otterbox has at this time, and the thinner cases only come in black or pink, so unfortunately you have to choose between pretty and protected. Have to dock it points for not having a dust cover though like the more rugged Otterboxes. These phones tell you once they start up the first time that they are not dust proof. This is my biggest complaint. There is no heavy duty Otterbox for the Galaxy Z flip 3. This is the closest you will get, and the one feature that is sorely needed, is not present. I had to purchase a separate dust plug, but the case does not play nice with it, and I need to remove the case every time I need to remove the plug which is not great. This is the only phone I felt the need to purchase an otterbox for, and I have to say I'm not impressed with the lack of a dust plug. The back of the case is slick, so if on a hard surface it will slide around, though not as much as the glass panels on the phone. I haven't dropped my phone and don't plan to, so im not sure exactly how durable and protected it is, but it does its job and I'm taking Otterbox on their word that this will protect my phone. The back is harder than the textured sides, and the softer raised edges give me more confidence letting the phone flip shut. There is no hinge protection. Again, bit of a missed opportunity given there are other cases with this, and I really would've expected hinge protection from the Otterbox 'rugged' reputation. Overall it's a fine case and I like it. There are a few things that could be better, but it does its job so I can't actually complain. For the price, I'd expect it to have those nicer features, but if the name means my phone is as protected as it can get, that's what's most important. I'd be interested to see how these thin cases compare to cheaper cases with similar durability tests. Real shame there is no Defender Pro for the Z Flip, but that's not the fault of this case.
