HLD-9 Power Battery Grip an essential accessory.
The Olympus HLD-9 Power grip works very well with the E-M1 Mark II and Mark III especially making larger lenses feel more balanced. I don't think it adds that much weight to the camera and it adds more grip to hold. Having vertical buttons and dials adds to the ease of use. I have three cameras and they all have battery grips as I wouldn't be able to work as efficiently without. I can always take it off if I want more of a compact setup. Plus, it adds a second battery for longer shooting time before changing batteries. Get OEM if you can.
I wanted to fill out my Olympus kit before things got difficult to obtain and I know from experience that getting the OEM version of battery/power winders is really the only way to go. The materials are better and it is designed to function correctly for that camera. It isn't some back engineered piece that although might be cheaper never holds up to an OEM piece in quality. Also I find as I'm getting older my hands aren't so steady and this grip gives me much more to hold onto to help steady them, not to mention the extra shots i get with the second battery. The right size.
I thought that it would make the camera too big, after using it, it does balance out the camera and lens combo better. I really enjoy using it. Mind you, I did come from a FF system, so I am used to the larger size and weight. I highly recommend it if you shoot a lot of vertical shots. To me, this makes it a must. Can’t live with out it!
