Product Information

The SC-29 Off-Camera AF TTL Cord which mounts to the hot shoe on Nikon digital and film SLR's enables an attached Speedlight to accurately autofocus in low light no matter where it's placed for beautiful shadowless lighting. This 1.5m (4.9ft) coiled cord incorporates a new AF Illuminator on the remote flash mounting shoe which overrides the Speedlight's AF Illuminator to eliminate any possibility of autofocus discrepancy when using a Speedlight off-camera. In addition the SC-29 can be used with the SB-800 Quick Recycling Battery Pack as an off-camera master controller in a wireless multi-flash setup. Other Nikon Speedlights can also be used remotely with the SC-29. They will retain the automation and TTL functions as if the flash was mounted directly onto the camera's flash shoe but the SC-29's AF illuminator will not operate. Nikon's professional-quality TTL multiple-flash system is designed so that even a novice can use it with confidence right away. You'll be able to create stunning effects and always get perfectly exposed pictures. Plus there's no need for complicated manual exposure-value calculations or accessory flash meters.

  • Excellent Pocket Flash

The SB400 is a very convenient flash to use . It is 100x better than pop up flashes . I use the SB800 for my work, as it's a workhorse than we use in studio as well. I have 6 of those, BUT I always wanted to have a small flash to carry around as a replacement to pop up units . The SB400 is the answer . It is convenient, small, rugged , and does well on batteries both alkaline or rechargeable . This is the 2nd SB400 I have. I was sad to see it discontinued , because I gave my previous unit to my kid to use on her D3200 dslr. As a fill in for use in daytime ... it's perfect for shadow and backlit subjects . It's not for large groups or shots from 15-20 feet, but as a fill in its perfect. The color ans exposure feels ans looks natural and doesn't look washed out . I wish it worked with my other strobes in the Nikon CLS system , but not a deal breaker , as that's not its intent. It is low profile and rugged: it feels solid and can be left on the dslr without any hassle . I would definitely get more if I could ...especially for a D850 or D5 that doesn't include a built in pop up .

  • Great Little Flash

This great little flash looks brand new and works perfectly with my Nikon D500. Even though it's long discontinued, it's quick and easy to use, which is sometimes what you need. My D500 doesn't have a built-in flash, so I wanted something tiny to use in the situations when I might have used a built-in flash. The output is great for my uses, and the recycle time is extremely quick. It came with a great little storage bag. I don't know why Nikon stopped making this useful and tiny flash, which according to the research I did, is better than the larger SB300 that replaced it.

  • Versatile and Compact

The Pros: This flash is small and easy to pack and take everywhere. It's far more powerful than the camera built-in flash and it recycles fast. I was able to use burst mode with it; something that is impossible with the built-in. It also uses AA batteries and they seem to last for a few hundred pictures. It can be used to bounce the flash off the ceiling, but not the side walls. The Cons: If you use the Auto White-Balance on your camera, this flash will produce a yellowish tint when used directly, as compared to the camera built-in flash which will usually produce a neutral while light. This flash will also produce a reddish tint when bounced off a perfectly bright white ceiling. So, make sure to change the white-balance on your camera to the flash setting to get good results with this flash.

  • Best Nikon Compact Flash Unit

This is truly an amazing flash unit, especially considering its small size. I also have an SB-700 and the much smaller SB-400 puts out almost as much light as the larger SB-700 flash. It also has a rotating head allowing you to do bounce flash shots with ease. The main reason I purchased this unit is its small physical size. Considering its performance and features it will definitely become my most used flash unit.

  • Return of an Old Friend

This is a great little flash for everyday use. Limitations, of course. It doesn't pivot. And even when pointed upward, the flash forward is pretty too strong. I put a piece of tape along the narrow edge to bounce light off the ceiling and block forward light. I'd had mine for years, but accidentally left it in a restaurant. Really happy to find another one on eBay, especially since they're not made any more.

  • Great little flash

I’ve used bulky flashes before and I’ve come to loathe them. I just want fill flash. The SB-400 has a tilt function, it’s small, it runs off 2 AA batteries which are easy to get anywhere. It’s reasonably small. The functions on my Z7 are so sophisticated that I can control the lighting almost down to perfection. This flash confirmed to me that smaller is better.

  • Great little small flash

The SB400 is way better than Nikon’s current offering. Ez to use- all settings made within the camera itself. The only control on the unit is the on/off switch. I have other more powerful flashes, but the 400 is great for traveling, fill flash outdoors, or simple snapshots. It’s small, has a bounce capability, and recycles quickly on two AA’s.

  • Small, lightweight, works great, has secure locking feature

Bought specifically to work with a Nikon D780 DSLR, Digital camera as this camera does not have a built-in flash. The SB-400 worked great. I like the fact that this flash has an adjustable head, which great for bouncing off the ceiling. I also like the small size of the flash. Its a great substitute for the built-in flash that older cameras came with.

  • Great Travel Flash, Lighweight, and with Quick Recycle Time

A small flash with excellent features such as quick recycle time. The best part is it uses only two, AA batteries. I purchase this flash for travel, and its features fit that bill!

  • The best compact iTTL Nikon flash

Great flash, very compact, swiveling head for easy bounce flash, quality build, and it's iTTL giving consistently good exposures. Nikon should still make these today.
