  • A Sharp, Light Telephoto Lens That's easy to carry>

This is a nice, light telephoto lens that has lightning-quick focus and produces tac-sharp images. I think it's all plastic, but who cares? It works just great!. The VR is fantastic, allowing you to produce very sharp, contrasty images with the lens wide open and at slow shutter speeds. I wish it would have added a stop or two, at least to 3.5, but if it were so, the lens would not be so affordable. As it is, on a reasonably bright day, you are going to get some shots that will look as though they were done on a pro lens. You might have to be a little more gentle putting on and removing the lens, since the mount is plastic, but the quality of the images you get and the very affordable price, make it a bargain in my book. I use it on a D7100 and I have gotten some incredible bird and wild life shots. I am very, VERY pleased with this lens! FIVE STARS.

  • Great lens for the price

I am new to digital photography but have researched it pretty intensely before taking the leap. This lens was one that caught my eye since it was rated well online, was not too pricey and had the range I was looking for. Having used it now for a few weeks I can say that the autofocus is extremely quick and very quiet. The images are very sharp as well. There is no button on the lens to switch from manual to autofocus but that does not seem to be so much of an issue since after autofocusing one can simply turn the ring on the end of the lens to manual focus (I think this is what is called manual override). No button for the VR on/off either, that is done through the camera's menu. So overall, I think this is a great lens at a very reasonable price.

  • Best DX telephoto lens

It's sharp, fast focusing and cheap. Great for sports. Mostly plastic, so it's not going to take a lot of beating around. But make sure your camera is compatible before buying. Only the latest bodies like the D3400 and D7500 allow you to turn off the VR. On other bodies, like the D7200, you have to update the firmware or the lens loses focus when the meter powers off. This lens won't work at all on older models. But if you've got a compatible body, there's no better choice for the money.

  • Very nice lens for the price

Detail and clarity are very good, even at maximum zoom. I like that the manual focus ring works without having to push any other button at the same time, or go into the menu. I wish the kit lens would do that! Also, the autofocus takes only an instant; there is no hunting back and forth, and no sound that I can hear. Kudos to Nikon for achieving all this in an entry-level lens.

  • Nikon lens

What a great product for the price! Works great with my D3300. Takes great pictures, I love the auto focus and stabilization features of this lens. This lens does an excellent job and is a perfect fit for what I was looking for.

  • Fine lens/good price

Using lens with DX camera. I'm very impressed with the full zoom images with VR on. Weight is acceptable and the manual focus override is also useful on occasion. Very happy with the lens.

  • Great Kit Lens for Nikon DLSR Cameras

Telephoto zoom lens can be very expensive yet are critical for certain types of shots and conditions. I enjoy this lens and found it to be very sharp yet lightweight and easy to carry around. I owned this lens already but due to a mishap of dropping my gear into a river had to repurchase. :) This lens is a great value when you consider the excellent deals you can find. Highly recommended and this kit lens would be part of your most popular lenses for sure...

  • Nice lens, but only for newer Nikon bodies.

As far as I can tell, this is an excellent lens, but I returned mine because I failed to notice it is an AF-P, not an AF-S or AF-D lens. In other words, this will not work on a Nikon D5100, like mine, since it is only compatible with newer Nikon bodies. Be sure to check the Nikon site for the compatibility possibility for your body. In my case, I exchanged it for an AFS 55-300 and love it.

  • Ridiculously fast autofocus, crisp and clear too

Until I used this lens myself, I couldn't fully appreciate reviews that said this lens was super fast and almost silent. Now I get it! Press the shutter down halfway and you're in focus - no noise and it's instantaneous. Not sure how you improve on this AF system. I get more usable shots with this than my old 55-200mm lens - and it's not even close. I liked that lens, but it's clearly getting relegated.

  • inexpensive, sharp and light lens that is good for the starter!

This a quite inexpensive lens. It is also lightweight, which makes it good for traveling with a light-weight camera (like my nikon 1). I found the images from the lens to be quite good, especially considering I am taking them with a Nikon1 J5 camera. Shown is an infrared image of a conifer tree from 500 feet away at maximum zoom and wide open, and another full-color image from about 1500 feet away. The autofocus is fast (on a Nikon1 + the FT-1 adapter). I do not mind the DX (APS-C) constrainment of the image circle because the Nikon1 uses a only-slightly-smaller 1" CX form factor, so I am losing less of the image than if I were using a full frame/FX-constrained image circle. I like the manual override of auto-focus, and autofocusing is rapid (with the nikon1+FT-1 adapter). Obviously, because the F/stops are 4.5 - 6.3, this lens will not work well for imaging dim subjects, but in bright light or for imaging stars/planets it should serve you well. For more precise or specialized needs, I have better-quality zoom lenses or prime lenses I would turn to. For commonplace shooting, I think you will be pleased with this lens What I am not fond of: the white rubbery rear lens "cap" does not feel like it will remain attached well for too long. There is no manual aperture, no focus range indicator, and no manual focus mode, so it will only work with cameras that can autofocus this lens. overall, a great lens for those with APS-C/DX sensors and newer cameras who are just getting into photography.
