Wonderful Palette of Colors! Works great with Polychromos Pencils.
I purchased these to do background washes and large areas of color while doing plein air sketching with Polychromos 120 set pencils. There are plenty shades of gray to do good clouds and all the needed shades of green to do Summer trees. These are an exceptional buy for professional quality colors. Individual full length colors are available open stock. Hint: Take a photo of the pastels as soon as you open the box the first time. The lid is printed with the color name and number so you can reorder open stock replacements.

Faber-Castell Soft Pastels have intense colors
They are very small, but easy to use. See my first pastel picture below. I did not have specific pastel paper or the detail would have been better. They are not as powdery as another pastel set I tried, which is good because Faber-Castell pastels stayed on the paper well. The only thing I can say against them--which goes for most pastels--is that they are not non-toxic. However, most art supplies are toxic, so artists know to be careful and to wash hands well and often. I've heard that using a paper face mask can help prevent inhalation of toxic dust. However, when I used them, they really didn't produce much dust on my 4x6" picture of a butterfly on golden flowers. (see below)

Soft pastels
Very happy with these pastels. Good selection of colors, and easy to use, especially with tortillions. I haven't worked much with pastels, and didn't want to invest too heavily in them, so I've been pleased with both the quality and price.

Top of the line pencils
These are wonderful, top of the line artist's tools. They go down smoothly, are rich in color, and have a velvety feel on the paper. They are light fast and are great for professional artists. I highly recommend getting the full set of you can afford it.

Great starter kit
A nice selection of colors for general purposes. Chalks are small but of high quality. I like the square shape that produces thin lines to broad shadings without much effort. Good value.

Pastel soft 72
This is a box of 72 faber- Castell soft pastel colors. They are very nice. I love the small ones they fit right in between ur fingers great, the price is very good. I never have done pastel and I love them wish I had started a long time ago, I always wondered what the talk was all about pastel, well I know beautiful colors the colors are unreal beautiful, u will like them want be disappointed at all.

Sorry I tried this brand
These harder pastels are not as good as my usual go-to hard pastel -- NuPastel. The quality is just not there and the pigment and blendability are not there either. I regret that I purchased this brand. Will stay with NuPastel from here on out for a hard pastel (generally used for the first layer in pastel painting).
