Best entry level or beginner DLSR.
The Canon EOS Rebel T6i is one of the best starter DSLRs you can purchase in 2019. There are cheaper DSLRs and equally priced cameras with more features than the T6i, like the Panasonic Lumix G7 (which is about the same in price but loaded with features) but the T6i is one of the easiest to pick up, as a beginner, and get right into shooting. Out of the box, this camera is easy to figure out. It has fewer dials and knobs than the more professional cameras and the settings management is laid out so that it is understandable buy the every day novice.
I am new to this feild as well and coming from a Lumix G7, the settings layout is so much easier to use and after watching a few good tutorial videos on Youtube, I was confident enough to start making quality videos and taking very nice pictures.
The body of this camera is right in between the smaller, mirrorless cameras and the larger, professional ones. That makes it more likely to be carried and available, if a photo opportunity should arise. This is a big features.
With the updated processor and sensor (24.2Megapixels) allows for the inclusion of their latest Auto focus technology, faze detection, that uses 19 points of focus now, as compared to the 9 on the T5 series and lower. In my testing so far, I am very happy with it's performance in the auto focus feild so far.
As for taking pictures, I am very new to this area and will not be evaluating it. But I can say that in my opinion, the pics I did take looked very "pro like" to me.
There are too many features on this camera for me to go over every one of them, but a quick search on Google or better yet, YouTube, will help you a lot, as the manual it a bit tough to get through (in my humble opinion).
A couple cons, it only goes up to 1080p 30/fps. This will not allow me to slow down my videos for a slow motion effect as 1080p 60/fps is about the minimum frames to be shooting in. Also, the display doesn't show you your mic input level while recording. So you have to hope your external microphone stays connected, or with a mic that has power, you remember to turn it in. This would be fixed with the inclusion of a scale on the screen shooting your mic input live, like my Lumix G7 has.
Also, and this is not for everyone, Magic Lantern, doesn't develope for this device. If they did, a quick download of their custom software would fix the mic input level not being on the screen.
That's about it, I urge you to watch a few YouTube videos, or read a few articles. You will be surprised. I can highly recommend this camera as an entry level/starter, budget friendly DLSR. You will not be disappointed.
