Synopsis
While in grad school in the early 1990s, Chris Niebauer began to notice striking parallels between the latest discoveries in psychology, neuroscience, and the teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, and other schools of Eastern thought. When he presented his findings to a professor, his ideas were quickly dismissed as "pure coincidence, nothing more." Fast-forward 20 years later and Niebauer is a PhD and a tenured professor, and the Buddhist-neuroscience connection he found as a student is practically its own genre in the bookstore. But according to Niebauer, we are just beginning to understand the link between Eastern philosophy and the latest findings in psychology and neuroscience and what these assimilated ideas mean for the human experience. In this groundbreaking book, Niebauer writes that the latest research in neuropsychology is now confirming a fundamental tenet of Buddhism, what is called Anatta, or the doctrine of "no self." Niebauer writes that our sense of self, or what we commonly refer to as the ego, is an illusion created entirely by the left side of the brain. Niebauer is quick to point out that this doesn't mean that the self doesn't exist but rather that it does so in the same way that a mirage in the middle of the desert exists, as a thought rather than a thing. His conclusions have significant ramifications for much of modern psychological modalities, which he says are spending much of their time trying to fix something that isn't there. What makes this book unique is that Niebauer offers a series of exercises to allow the reader to experience this truth for him- or herself, as well as additional tools and practices to use after reading the book, all of which are designed to change the way we experience the world--a way that is based on being rather than thinking., In This Groundbreaking Book, Neuropsychology professor Chris Niebauer explains how after decades of research on the brain, Western science may have inadvertently confirmed a fundamental tenet of Buddhism: anatta, or the doctrine of "no self." Niebauer shows how findings in neuropsychology suggest that our sense of self is actually an illusion created by the left side of the brain and that it exists in the same way a mirage in the middle of the desert exists: as a thought rather than a thing. This incredible thesis has significant and wide-ranging implications in psychology, philosophy, religion, and personal growth. Not content to merely detail how this radical new-yet ancient-perspective could change our view of the world and what it means to be human, Niebauer also offers a range of intriguing exercises at the end of each chapter that will allow you to experience this truth for yourself. Read this book and you will never view "self-help" the same way again! Book jacket.

- l***t (53)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Six derniers moisAchat vérifiéI received my order on time as seller promised. I had questions prior to it being shipped. The seller quickly responded putting my mind at ease. I had previously purchased this same item from 2 other sellers in which I made several attempts to contact, but they would not respond, yet they had already received pymt. I ended up canceling those. Sellers like this one restored my faith on purchasing from EBAY. Item was in perfect condition n packaged very well. Thank you!
- r***0 (42)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Dernier moisAchat vérifiéI paid for this movie on 07/05. By 07/24, the tracking showed that my parcel has been waiting at an USPS facility in my for a week. I contacted the seller. eBay issued a refund. Surprise! today, 08/01, the movie arrived well packed. I watched it. Excellent condition and video quality; great price also. Wanted to pay for it (again)so I contacted the seller to find out how. Regretfully, they say they were “unable to retain payment after a refund has been issued”. A real shame. Snail Mail’s fault
