Well made and very low cost.
The plastic moldings are very well done. It does require painting for the best appearance, but that can be handled with hardware store spray cans and masking tape. You can find one or more online videos where somebody shows how they painted theirs (and at least one with how to add sound! "Affirmative Dave. I read you."). The kit instructions and diagrams are excellent and show a good way to cement the clear plastic lenses without hurting them. Another option to cement the clear lenses is to use "canopy glue" which is used by model airplane folks to glue clear plastic canopies to model airplanes. I drove down from Oxnard to Los Angeles - twice - to see the movie when it first came out and always wanted something like this. It is well done. But then again, everything from Moebius ... Very Cool
It is a very nice model and very easy to build. The attention to detail is very nice down to the decals on the lens ring. There are some parts that need to be trimmed before painting. They seem to be a part of the model but are minor defects. The biggest flaw in this kit is the lack of a back panel. The battery is held on by double sided tape and the wiring is exposed. These are really all minor problems that can easily be fixed with proper planning and some creativity. I cut an extra piece of plastic to cover the back. It was a fun build overall and was extremely satisfied with the final product. I’ve always wanted my own full scale replica of a HAL9000 and I’m not disappointed. I plan on adding a Google home mini to fit inside. I recommend this to any fan of the movie. It is a very nice model and very easy to build. Killer HAL 9000 kit.
This is a highly detailed kit, a much better reproduction than the previous HAL I had. It has enuf space in the back to modify the kit. Excellent details in the decals and focus ring. Highly recommended.

Still creepy after all these years.
Simple. Stark. Easy to build. Treat as any other model. Use model paints. Don't be a dummy like me and use off the shelf spray cans. Too thick. You will lose most of the detail if not really, really careful.
