Reviews
"This is an extraordinarily important book; it calls for a major conceptual shift away from how we currently view our relationship with the biosphere and forcefully makes the case that this shift is necessary...the book is well written and its case extraordinarily well supported by a myriad ofexamples and by an enormous reference list." --John Emlen, Northwest Science 2009

Synopsis
Systemic Management describes a holistic, objective, and universally applicable form of management, providing a framework for addressing environmental challenges such as global warming, emergent diseases, deforestation, overpopulation, the extinction crisis, pollution, over-fishing, and habitat destruction. Its goals are the consistently sustainable relationships between humans and ecosystems, between humans and other species, and between humans and the biosphere. This book presents a convincing argument that these goals, and the means to achieve them, can be inferred from empirical information. It describes how comparisons between humans and other species reveal patterns that can serve to guide management toward true sustainability, i.e. ways that are empirically observed to work in natural systems. This objective approach has rarely been possible in conventional management because sustainability is invariably undermined by conflicting human values.Systemic Management is presented as a specialized process of pattern-based decision-making that avoids the inconsistency, subjectivity and error in current management practice. It clearly demonstrates how mimicking nature's empirical examples of sustainability can circumvent anthropocentric tendencies to overuse/misuse human values in management, and illustrates the science best suited for achieving sustainability through examples of research that address specific management questions., 'Systemic Management' describes a holistic, objective and universally applicable form of management, providing a framework for addressing environmental challenges such as global warming, emergent diseases, deforestation, overpopulation, the extinction crisis, pollution, over-fishing, and habitat destruction., Systemic Management describes a holistic, objective, and universally applicable form of management, providing a framework for addressing environmental challenges such as global warming, emergent diseases, deforestation, overpopulation, the extinction crisis, pollution, over-fishing, and habitat destruction. - i***t (264)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Six derniers moisAchat vérifiéStaff were excellent communicators and gave top notch customer service to ensure correct copy sent from overseas. Postage reasonable against other US booksellers (most now charging inflated post-covid rates) & for a heavy book. Even had tracking! Book arrived immaculately packed, still partly in shrink wrap and new (small marks only)- purchase exceeded all expectations (especially happy considering a $$$ art book). Highly recommend this seller 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Cynthia Daignault: Light Atlas (GREGORY R. MILL), Campany, David,Nemerov, Alexan (#375563703219)
- v***v (92)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Six derniers moisAchat vérifiéMade offer and received quick counteroffer from Catherine. We established a fair price and book was nicely packed and sent on its way. Was as described. Like all previous purchases from Midtown Scholar Bookstore, this was a pleasant experience. I highly recommend doing business with this firm! (Have lost count how many books I have purchased from this firm, but my opinion is based on numerous buys.)The Baltimore Orioles: The History of a Colorful Team in Baltimore and St. Louis (#375655108637)
- u***d (300)- Évaluation laissée par l'acheteur.Six derniers moisAchat vérifiéNo problem with the seller at all, who sent item out as described & in timely fashion. USPS delayed delivery; had to file a 'Missing Mail' action in order to locate it, which for some reason was lost in a distro hub. Curious, since my previous attempt to order the book elsewhere ended up with the order being cancelled, no reason given.
