In this classic Southern prison drama, social misfit Lucas "Luke" Jackson (Paul Newman) is incarcerated for a petty crime and sentenced to a chain gang. Luke is a sullen and laconic young man whose cool defiance of the sadistic warden and bullying inmates earns him the title "Cool Hand Luke." But as the prisoners' respect for Luke grows into hero worship, he finds that he must risk everything in order to live up to their expectations. Filled with dozens of memorable scenes (Luke eating 50 eggs) and quotable lines ("What we have here is a failure to communicate."), COOL HAND LUKE is a testament to excellent screenwriting (Donn Pearce and Frank Pierson) and Newman's charm and skill as an actor. The film also features an outstanding supporting cast that includes George Kennedy, Strother Martin, and early screen appearances by Dennis Hopper and Harry Dean Stanton.

    The description the seller gave for this product was incorrect; this show has nothing to do with people stranded on an island. The DVD also had no English version like I had asked. However, the seller was very nice and even gave me a discount after I had inquired about the DVD. I don’t blame the seller for these first two things because I don’t think they were very knowledgeable about these types of shows. I still recommend this seller because of their honesty and patience.

    Great story, with many known actors.

    An excellent 1967 movie that I have seen many times. I just had to have a copy for my collection. Paul Newman stars as Luke, in a cast of many big name supporting actors. Prisoners, in a southern chain gang prison, in a story with twists and turns. I can't wait to watch it again.

    Great flick at great value.

    DVD arrived in great shape and sealed. Haven't watched it yet. I bought it because it was one of my favorites from the first time I saw it at a move theatre in the late '60's. Great flick!!

    A great classic from the '60s!

    If one has not been given "spoiler alerts", the movie keeps you wondering what will happen next! I never saw this movie before and only read plot summaries, so was delightfully entertained.

    Liked it then, like it even more now.

    Cool Hand Luke, I saw this movie when it was at the theaters, brand new, in a premiere for media reviewers, when I was in high school. Liked it then, like it even more now. I've ordered Donn Pearce's novel upon which the movie, for the most part, is based. Lot of stars in this cast. Great movie, recommend!
