An intense suspense thriller with a haunting soundtrack, KLUTE is the first part of what director Alan Pakula described as his "paranoid trilogy." This is an appropriate summation of film subjects at the time: Jane Fonda's landmark performance as Bree Daniels was filled with nuances that personified the fears and tensions of urban life.The story follows rural Pennsylvania private eye John Klute (Donald Sutherland), who is investigating the disappearance of his friend Tom Gruneman. Klute's only lead points him to a Manhattan call girl named Bree Daniels (Fonda), who is being stalked by an obsessed john. Shot on location in New York City, the film is both an intriguing and intelligently adult suspense film and a showcase for Fonda, who won an Academy Award for her role.

    An Incredible Performance by a Fine Actress!

    This has always been one of my favorite movies with Jane Fonda, along with They Shoot Horses, Don't They. It was a tumultuous time for her and the rest of us in the anti-war movement when Nixon and J. Edgar made us all out to be un-American if we didn't support their war machine. We were not anti-U.S. We were anti-war and we wanted our troops out of Vietnam. My brother was over there at the time. He was hit under friendly fire in 1969 and lost both of his legs.

    Ho hum

    Acting is good but script is weak. Not the kind of movie you watch more than every few years. Sutherland has a real screen presence and that’s what I have stuck in my mind

    Can't go wrong

    Though this edition probably pales next to the new one from Criterion, this is still a great film from New Hollywood and Jane Fonda (please hold the politics indefinitely) gives one of the best performances ever to win the Oscar. The edition itself is very good in looks and sound and has a vintage making of featurette as an extra.

    Klute, A Very Good Movie.

    Really good movie. Maybe Jane Fonda's best performance in any movie she has ever been in. Donald Sutherland was also good.

    Kluge is the investigator looking into a disappearance.

    A good mystery story, but I am disappointed that the price dropped shortly after I ordered the item!
