A once in a lifetime experience to fully understand World War 2 and the lives it affected
This series has the tremendous advantage of interviewing live witnesses and live footage from many different source. All footage has been digitally corrected and enhanced to high definition format. The DVD quality is the best ever recorded even better than the original intended television audiences

Great Encapsulation of the BIG War
Glad to see this fine series restored. It's just as powerful now as it was many years ago when I first saw it. Interviews with folks who had been there and seen things in real life are the best historians. They lived it.

Great Documentary of World War 2
I was very happy to find my favorite world war 2 doc for such a good price and on blu ray to boot. The quality is excellent and extra features are a nice addition.

Restored original WW II footage enhances remarkable documentary
This documentary contains much more original film footage of the war than any other documentary on WW II that I have seen. It is also organized in a unique and effective way. Instead of simply going through the war chronologically, which often involves a confusing array of separate campaigns, none of which are handled adequately, each segment in this documentary is an in-depth account of a particular aspect of the war - the build-up to Hitler's access to power, the German U-boat campaign, the bombing blitz of London, etc.The viewer is left with a broad overview of the war in terms of its various campaigns and components. This documentary contains much more original film footage of the war than any other documentary on WW II that I have seen. It is also organized in a unique and effective way. More like a Soviet bootleg than a genuine release - rife with technical errors.
The formatting of this release can only only be described as faulty. Firstly, it has been corrupted by having the aspect ratio stretched to fit modern televisions, rendering an unnatural viewing experience. Secondly, the speed is incorrect; It plays much too slowly. As a result, Laurence Olivier sounds like Orson Welles in the Paul Masson Champagne commercial, baritone and monotonous. I was so disappointment by this I immediately rid myself of this war crime by tossing it in the bin, saving future generations from the horror of this release. The formatting of this release can only only be described as faulty.
