Milos Foreman's ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, based on the novel by Ken Kesey and the play by Dale Wasserman, presents a biting and ultimately tragic satire about mental institutions and the human spirit. A disturbing, witty, and electrifying drama, the film won the 1975 Academy Award for Best Picture. R.P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), a misbehaved con who shirks authority, finds himself in an asylum after faking insanity to get out of work detail in prison. The vivacious troublemaker soon finds himself in a worse kind of prison--one presided over by the repressed, terrifyingly quiet Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), whose set of rules and regulations are meant to suppress patients' psychotic outbursts, and their spirits. It's not long before McMurphy is reaching out to his new inmates, trying desperately to bring life to an otherwise dead atmosphere. To Ratched, however, Nicholson's free spirit is as dangerous as a schizophrenic impulse. ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST is brilliantly acted by an ensemble that includes Brad Dourif, Christopher Lloyd, Vincent Schiavelli, and Danny DeVito.

    Another excellent experience shopping with this seller. It was as pictured and in the described condition. Better yet it came in a protective case which i did not expect. Item shipped in well padded box with bubblewrap to insure no damage to the item. Price was very reasonable for an out of production item that sells for more at other seller. It shipped fast. This is an excellent seller and will shop here again. Highly recommend.

    A Classic about Control vs. Freedom

    An affecting criticism of institutionalization has Jack and "Chief" acting in powerful portrayals of psychiatric inpatients. The over-controlling head nurse has ice instead of blood flowing in her veins. Jack, the rebel, upsets her hospital routine, causing dangerous conflict. He audaciously breathes life into stifling protocol. Fighting the head nurse's fascistic, clinical "city hall" is life and mind threatening for the patient, Jack. During the sunset of the USA's mass psychiatric institutionalization approach, this movie was shocking, and well-acted. This landmark movie still has an important, yet very entertaining, message to share. Fully recommended for middle adolescent to adult audiences.

    Great Movie

    One of my favorite movies; and have been collecting my favs for a few months now, so grabbed this when I saw it was available. Well worth watching. The acting is superb by all of the actors.

    Good quality video

    The quality of the dvd was excellent. The story provokes an emotional response about the treatment of people under the control of others in an institution. The action moves along to the completion of the story.

    some people don't understand people like us go throught on a daily basic in and of hospitals living on medication some people think its a joke but its not we are really out here struggling to cope day to day
