Awesome Weller Soldering Gun Kit!
I have done and still do a fair amount of soldering. Weller Soldering Guns and Irons have always helped me get the job done very. They tin and stay tinned very well and are easy to wire wheel off to clean. This Gun looks just like a 30 year old Weller Soldering Gun that, I think is 400 Watts and 260 Watts. This Gun has worked very well for soldering Speaker Wiring and Automotive Wiring, where the wires are a little heavier gauge than very small electronics. This Gun is highly recommended and an excellent value! I should last for many years to come, just like older Weller Soldering products I have that still function as well as the day they were purchased. Thank you! Design change but product works.
The only thing I disliked about this product is even though the model number has not changed, the design of the tip mount has changed, so all my old D550 spare tips have to have the ends bent and the old nut type mount removed, at which time the tip can be inserted into the gun and works well. I am assuming that the reason that they changed the mounting type is it makes a better heat transfer connection, but then again, maybe Weller got cheap. This Particular Soldering Gun
This particular one is no good, as soon as you plug it in it was on. The trigger did not work like it was suppose to. I laid it on the cement in my garage so it wouldn't burn anything and the inside pieces started burning the inside plastic on the side. I unplugged it. I had to pick it up real quick to keep the plastic from melting This Item was bought used, they did say it was checked, however I believe someone skipped this one. The trigger felt like it was suppose to, but it did not work. I had one like this several years ago and it broke and I got rid of it. I now need one, so I guess I will buy a new one this time.This particular one is no good, as soon as you plug it in it was on. The trigger did not work like it was suppose to. When you're dealing with large surface joints, this is the right tool for the job.
If you have to solder something where there is more then a dime sized surface area, this is the right tool. A small component iron will not generate enough heat, this is the purpose of the Weller 200 Watt Iron. My dad had one of these I used throughout my teen years and was tough as nails.

Enables restoration of vintage Radio Equipment!
I restore vintage tube radio equipment and the Weller D550PK is the perfect heavy duty soldering iron for these types of equipment. Newer, smaller and less powerful soldering irons just don’t have the heat to for properly attaching grounding lugs to a steel chassis. This Weller D550PK is ideal for the job. Great American product!
