Synopsis
Legendary Yankees past and present sit down with award-winning columnist Bill Madden to offer a captivating portrait of what it's like to play for the Bronx Bombers., No other team has come close to dominating baseball like the New York Yankees, with 26 World Series wins and 38 American League championships. No wonder no other team has a fraction of baseball books published about them. Bill Madden adds another to the lengthy list with Pride of October: What it Was to Be Young and a Yankee. From Phil Rizzuto and Whitey Ford to Lou Piniella and Paul O'Neil, 17 former Yankees and one Yankee widow, reveal their memories about their careers. The wide range ofYankee seasons is reflected in all the players selected, so questions range from the reality of Babe Ruth's "called home run," to Pichard the shocking final inning of the 2001 World Series loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks with the "unbeatable" Yankee reliever Mario Rivera on the mound. In the pregame clubhouse meetings, the normally reserved Rivera surprised his teammates by saying "We're going to win, but no matter what happens, it's in God's hands." Don Mattingly reflects on his 13 fine seasons with the Yanks without a single World Series ring to show for it. Yogi Berra, Madden claims, when asked directions to his home for the interview replies, "When you get to the house, you'll see it.", No other team has come close to dominating baseball like the New York Yankees, with 26 World Series wins and 38 American League championships. The wide range ofYankee seasons is reflected in all the players selected, so questions range from the reality of Babe Ruth's called home run, to Pichard the shocking final inning of the 2001 World Series loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks with the unbeatable Yankee reliever Mario Rivera on the mound. In the pregame clubhouse meetings, the normally reserved Rivera surprised his team-mates by saying We're going to win, but no matter what happens, it's in God's hands. Don Mattingly reflects on his 13 fine seasons with the Yanks without a single World Series ring to show for it. Yogi Berra, Madden claims, when asked directions to his home for the interview replies, When you get to the house, you'll see it., Through the words of seventeen former New York Yankees and one Yankee wife, New York Times bestselling writer Bill Madden conjures up eighty years of baseball history and pays tribute to the winningest team in sports history. These are the most thrilling, heroic, and poignant stories of Yankee favorites -- colorful characters both on and off the field. Here Whitey Ford reflects on his pitching roots in Astoria, Queens...Don Mattingly tells why he walked away from the Bronx to be a father in Indiana...Bobby Richardson, the player-turned-preacher, recalls how he ministered to Mickey Mantle at his deathbed...Jerry Coleman relives the dramatic weekend sweep of the Red Sox that won the '49 pennant...Phil Rizzuto describes the end of Joe DiMaggio's hitting streak...Reggie Jackson paints portraits of Billy Martin, Thurman Munson, and George Steinbrenner that are more personal than any we have seen before. Filled with unforgettable moments in baseball history, Pride of October joyously captures the glory of the game...and the spirit of the team that has played it best. Book jacket.

Package was described "Like new".. Package was meticulously inspected. A couple of finger prints were found on the disk, but they gently rubbed off. The disk was absolutely flawless other than that, and that was the only thing I cared about... The vendor chose not to use tracking, but has had many things successfully shipped to customers. So, not a big deal there. I had an awesome purchase experience from this vendor all things considered. Excellent vendor!! 100% happy customer!! Thanks!!

It was a little late to ship but I dont blame the seller for that, I understand there are reasons and I happen to be a patient person. Quality is as described and the packaging was fine although a little light for a collectors item. I got what I payed for which is pretty unique so its hard to tell if it was a fair price but I was very willing to pay it and I feel I got what I wanted so I'd say it was worth it. A+
