General Rafael Trujillo (Edward James Olmos) is in the midst of his dictatorial grip over the people of the Dominican Republic. Minerva Mirabal (Salma Hayek) and her two sisters--collectively known as Las Mariposas (The Butterflies)--attempt to take down the vicious ruler with the help of a small rebel faction. This stirring drama documents the adversity the sisters face in trying to overthrow the murderous Trujillo regime and bring freedom to their nation.

    It's important to know the chairs I purchased were in CT and I live in TX. The chairs were exactly as described and in excellent condition.     Great Story!

    This is a fictionalized story about the atrocities of the Dominican dictator Trujillo, The movie was adapted from the respected Dominican poet and writer Julia Alvarez who does a great job of depicting the general conditions and persecution of anybody opposing this ruthless dictator. The story is interesting and kept my attention to the very sad ending. A great story!

    True events

    It’s based on true events and characters, at the end of the film it informs you so. The movie was better then I expected and has become a new favorite.
