    X58 Greatness

    Pros: Great dual X58 board. I had a pair of X5650's laying around and I decided to build a workstation out of them. This board has lots of nice features including IPMI. Cons: No built-in sound. You'll have to add a sound card. The built-in graphics are basic. You'll need to add a graphics card if you want to use this board as a workstation. My biggest complaint is that this board's chipset is only PCIE 1.1 compliant. This translates to SSD speeds being halved unless you install an external card such as a LSI 9212-4i.

    Smaller than the X8DTN, but just as powerful for CPU

    I was always taken by the Super Micro X8DTN+, however I needed something much smaller and yet, similarly capable (in terms of CPU, but not as much RAM). I tried this X8DTL, and can tell you that it was a big success.

    Great server motherboard.

    Full of server features, IPMI works great, lots of expansion for SFP cards and what not. The chipset's heatsink gets REALLY hot so active cooling is most certainly recommended. Fan connectors are auto-detect between 3pins and 4pins PWM but they are all controlled by one single speed setting, which could be a problem if you want some fans to push more air than others. Compatible with FreeNas too!

    Super Micro X8DTL-iF Motherboard Review

    Awesome build for my Video Editing Rig that I have paired with two Xeon x5680 processors, but for a fraction of the cost of new hardware. I'm glad I went this route and will be building another system using the same motherboard in the future.
