This Winter's Tale left me cold
I am a writer myself and what I observed is that this book could really benefit from some very serious editing. I purchased this book to read after watching the movie of the same name several times and loving it. The book is a real let-down. It bears practically NO similarity to the movie and it rambles on and on for 672 pages telling numerous stories about characters that the author fails to connect in an interesting way at the end. I found the conclusion of the book to be UN-interesting and disappointing. If I were this author, I would consider re-writing the entire book to resemble to movie script. Given the author's writing style though, I question whether he could resist the urge to embellish aspects of that story to the point where it too, would be unrecognizable and cumbersome. ... A side of New York City most beautifully written!
I read this book with some friends years ago. Fantastic Story!! Action, Adventure, Love Story for the Ages, Funny, this book had it all. Well written by the Author. Forced me to read other material by him.

A fanciful view of "The City", aka New York seen through many colorful characters, all described in amazing prose.
It's as good as I expected. I read it the first time in 1984 and am enjoying it again.

Strange, beautiful, imaginitative, entertaining, a book that time will treat with respect.
Set in a dystopian New York City surrounded by an impenetrable fog. Imaginative, well-writtten, compelling novel. I'm reminded in its otherworldliness of "Sailor Song", though this is no comedy and will certainly weather time better. If you've not read Winters Tale, do.
