After countless alterations, a revolving door of writers and directors (which included Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse, Sidney Lumet, and Garson Kanin), crazed tryouts, and an opening night that was delayed five times, Funny Girl turned out to be an unadulterated smash-and it still sounds great this much further on. Composer Jule Styne, at the peak of his brassy powers, custom-fitted the show to it's star, Barbra Streisand, and she ran away with it. Streisand's delivery of "People" still sends a chill down the spine, and she completely radiates with the life-force of someone who's a star and knows it. Funny Girl is a delirious, larger-than-life Broadway epic that projects show stopping energy but never loses track of it's characters' humanity.

    Replacing vinyl with 50th anniversary cd

    Angel did a re- release of the Broadway cast recording of FUNNY GIRL for the 50th anniversary of its opening and I needed to replace my LP. There' s nothing extra here-- sometimes these re- releases have a song that was cut in rehearsal or otherwise left out-- but everyone sounds really good. If you only know the movie version, get this. Not only are there some different songs, Sydney Chaplin sang much better than Omar Sharif!

    Saw the musical, Funny Girl, in London, Barbara Streisand is the best vocals.

    SAW THIS FANTASTIC MUSICAL IN LONDON. SHERIDAN SMITH STARS. SHE IS NOT BARBARA STREISAND BUT DAMN GOOD! i WAS TOO YOUNG TO APPRECIATE BARBARA STREISAND WHEN SHE STARRED IN THIS GREAT MUSICAL.

    Great cd, plays perfectly, just as advertised.

    It was awesome sauce. Funny Girl is one of the only 2 Broadway shows I have ever seen live. The cd was a perfect reminder of how much fun that was, and the music still is. The cd works perfectly.
