Malfunctioning remote makes SC-20H DVD player worthless
Supersonic DVD player seems flimsy, fragile, and vibrates noisily when spinning DVDs, so it will probably not last very long. Right out of the box I am already having 2 serious problems. First: the remote control unit usually does not work at all. It only functions occasionally. I am using the batteries that came with the unit and have tried re-seating the batteries several times, but the remote continues to malfunction. Since most of the features of this DVD player can ONLY be accessed via the remote control unit, I am left with a bare-bones DVD player that barely functions at all. My second problem seems to be a software bug in the DVD player operating system: when using HDMI cable connection, every time I turn the DVD player off and on, it reverts to PAL mode, which is not compatible ... I made certain that the DVD player output format menu was set to NTSC and NOT set to AUTO, but it still keeps switching itself to back PAL format. The malfunctioning remote makes it nearly impossible to switch the DVD output mode to NTSC, so my TV cannot display any picture at all most of the time. This is particularly annoying because the DVD player listing and manual state that this DVD player is supposed to be factory set for "region one", which means NTSC compatible, but instead it keeps switching itself to PAL output format, which means "region two".

Not region free.
From the owners manual: "The region code of the player is region 1". Otherwise it is a typical cheap player that includes a small remote (that uses AAA batteries) and thin A/V cables. It does feature an HDMI connection.

So far so good
I purchased this Supersonic dvd player partly because I own two of their other products that have performed well so far and primarily for the USB slot and to compare it to the similar LG unit that I also own. To my surprise, this unit actually has more features than the LG. The USB slot plays correctly encoded videos smoothly but it also played a dvd file that I did not encode into an AVI container and that didn't play in the USB slot of the LG unit. The remote is well designed and it's very important to review the user manual fully before operation in order to ensure that you have set it to region free. haven't had a dvd that won't play well in it no matter what type. easy to use remote and usb works great for playing videos downloaded from my computer.

All Region player
Works as advertised. Tray door was jammed upon arrival--wouldn't work at first, but I used a knife to readjust it and now it works fine. Directions to make it region free was a snap--very easy to do. Definitely worth the price.
