From the best-selling novel by Peter Benchley, Steven Spielberg directed this thrill ride of terror. During the height of beach season, the Massachusetts resort town of Amity Island is terrorized one summer by surprise attacks from a great white shark. Three unlikely partners team up to hunt down the rogue and destroy it: the new chief of police from New York (Roy Scheider), a young university-educated oceanographer (Richard Dreyfuss), and a crusty old-time fisherman (Robert Shaw). The film shoot was notoriously difficult for the young Spielberg, who had directed only one feature film before JAWS. The mechanical shark seldom operated correctly, and Spielberg was frequently forced to create the idea of terror without actually showing the shark. However, after the film premiered it went on to become the highest-grossing film of all time--surpassing THE GODFATHER and becoming the first film to gross more than a hundred million dollars. Composer John Williams created the score to JAWS, which has since become a well-known theme of impending doom. Ron and Valerie Taylor were responsible for filming live sharks in Australia; their sequences were later mixed with footage of the mechanical shark.

    Fantastic Shark Movie

    The original shark movie that spawned a storm of similar 'shark offerings'! This one is the one all others are judged by, IMO. The movie is exceptional, and even though I have the movie in standard version, I wanted a copy in Blu-Ray. This is a terrific movie with a great cast and wonderful story-line, full of suspense, with a fully realistic and believable shark in most of the scenes (there are, of course, exceptions). It's hard to believe the movie is about 45 years old!

    A Natural Classic!

    Definitely a lot better looking than the DVD, but there's some noticeable enhancements that pop out for me. Like the blinking lights on the floating barrels, and the bright red meteor streaking by. Looks cool but "maybe" a bit too much for some of the long time fans out there. The DTS 7.1 sound is great, but so was the original DTS mono which is also included. Overall this Blu-ray is a great improvement over the previous old VHS & DVD versions. I'm happy to add it to the collection... once again.

    Jaws is a " CLASSIC" MOVIE THAT SET A NEW OUTLOOK ON GOING INTO THE DEEP BLUE..!

    Just like ET the extra terrestrial by Steven Spielberg Jaws sets a New Vision on the ocean and sea in the Underworld of the oceans around the globe which make up 75% of the Earth. A must have in your Blu Ray DVD collection...! Love it...!

    Excellent remastering job of a true classic

    Great HIGH QUALITY movie!!! The classic movie just remastered. I chose to put my TV on "vivid" picture for the sharp definition and detail. Takes me back, I recall going to the theater 3 times to see it . Great SUSPENCEFUL DRAMA.....

    Best Summer Release Movie of All Time!

    This is why we don’t go in the ocean anymore.Scary movie when it first came out and is still a popcorn movie night favorite.Great characters and great story line.Can’t lose with this one in the DVD player.We will watch this movie many many times in our lifetime.
