Intelliseek software also keeps the disk arm in motion without using the motor. It helps cut power by up to three times as much as a traditional hard disk. It also shuts down the platters and parks the heads after eight seconds of non-use. This feature helps to significantly cut down on power consumption. As one of the Green WDs, it is also very quiet with minimal vibration. SilkStream is another software add-on to the Western Digital. With it, you enjoy smooth video playback on up to 12 HD streams. Preemptive power leveling allows for a longer HDD life. NoTouch Technology also keeps the heads from touching the platters to ensure less wear and tear on the drive. This technology makes the 500GB WD a perfect choice for use in surveillance systems. You certainly don't want any lag or a jumpy video feed when it comes to security.The manufacturer usually packages this WD alone in plastic, but it uses standard SATA I or SATA II connection cables. It measures 4 inches wide by 5.8 inches long by 1 inch deep and is meant to be installed on an internal hard drive. The interface type depends on what year the drives were released.
