The Intel Xeon E5-2650 Sandy Bridge EP processor is speedy, stable and perfect for running your servers. This 2.0 GHz Intel processor (which can turbo boost to 2.8 GHz) has a whopping 8 cores and a large 20MB L3 cache system and has all the power you’ll need to run your system at high benchmarks for performance at great value. This Intel Xeon E5-2650 has 8 cores, which means there are eight independent CPUs inside this chip, ready to power your system. It also runs with 16 threads, via Intel’s hyper-threading technology, which essentially means that your system will run as if there are 16 CPUs inside, which allows for parallel computing – highly threaded software applications can get more work done in parallel, completing tasks sooner. The processor runs at a 2.0GHz frequency but can be turbo boosted up to 2.8GHz for more power with Intel’s Turbo Boost 2.0 technology. The CPU hardware cache is 20MB L3 Smart Cache memory, which shares that amount of information between each core, for quick access to cut down processing times across your system for continual high performance. The max memory size is 384GB, and the Intel Xeon E5-2650 supports type DDR3 RAM. It can also support up to 40 PCI Express Lanes. The instruction set is 64-bit. Intel 64 architecture improves performance by allowing systems to address more than 4GB of both virtual and physical memory. The socket, which provides the mechanical and electrical connections between the processor and motherboard, supports LGA 2011 (FCLGA2011), and the package size is 52.5mm by 45mm. The max thermal design power (TDP) is 95W. The Xeon E5-2650 also features Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology, which balances high performance with the power-conservation needs of mobile systems, by which the applied voltage and clock speed of a microprocessor are kept at the minimum necessary levels until more processing power is required.
