A Decent Sophomore Release

I Fell in love with Alesana's first album "On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax", and was so excited when I found out they had released another album that i bought up immediately. This cd did not blow me away like the first mostly because it is much more generic and has less of the melodic breakdowns I loved from the first cd. Overall it seems as though this album was rushed and does not have the same feel as the first, although i have read that it may have been focused on making a good concert. The bottom line is if you want to get into alesana get their first cd, this one has great moments but on frail wings is solid all the way through and has more of their softer side which i enjoyed more than the up beat almost poppy side that they show off in this cd.

Finally Found It

I have not put a lot of stock in the Screamo genre, but Alesana has succeeded in making a beautifully emotional masterpiece with their first full album. Stick with it if you don't really get into the spoken word Icarus, it makes for a perfect transition into one of the best tracks on the album, Ambrosia. From there I'm hooked every time I put in this album. Unfortunately I'm very confused with the bonus tracks. I'm glad they realized that melodic type "The Third Temptation of Paris", and the similar breakdowns in their other songs were some of their best work(although they didn't remember this when making their second album), but the bonus songs just don't fit. The transition from Nero's Decay almost fits, but the acoustic piano with the obviously modified voice just ruins the mood. The remix of apology is slightly easier to take, but i am always waiting for the song to pick up and it seems like a ghost of the original. So Get This Album!, there is enough variety that there should be something you can get into.

The Way An Expansion Should Be

Advance wars, a turn based strategy game based around ground, sea and air units is by far one of the best made in last decade and its sequel black hole rising does not disappoint. The battle system in this game has all the units start with 10 hit points which are lost when being attacked or from a counter attack which happen automatically. Units lose offensive and defensive capabilities as they lose health so it is very important to plan ahead. Advance wars 2 picks up shortly after the original left off with the black hole army almost pushing every other nation's forces into the sea. It is up to you to take the role of Commanding officer and take back your homeland. The only differences between this game and its predecessor is the fact that you play as all the different nations in the campaign mode, not just orange star like the original. There are also a handful of new COs and single new unit the neotank, which make it easy to transition into this game. Players can also charge up for a super power move in addition to the usual power move, which is very similar but offers even more bonus's for that turn. All in all if you are a fan of turn based strategy games you should definitely give this one a try, but you might want to start with the first. This game felt more like an expansion than a new game, but it is endlessly challenging through the campaign as well as the war room which has dozens of levels to unlock and master.
