Sony PSP 3000 Pearl White
Used Sony PSP 3001 XPW Pearl White for North America.
It's a limited edition color since Pearl White since it was supposedly sold a few years back under a limited time but not anymore. It's found in Asia and Europe now as (North) America only has the Black version as standard.
The controls are identical to the newer versions as I also bought a limited edition PSP 3000 from Japan though 1 function is different which is when you press "Enter". JP version you press "left" on the right controls whereas the PW edition you press "down".
First time owning it and playing games with it so can't comment on functionality.
The music player is good when you load up music onto the media card. Unfortunately, a media card is NOT included as Standard in ANY versions so you better buy one which is the DuoStick, Sony's proprietary memory card format, though you can buy another proprietary format, M2 card, which may include a Duostick adapter. The highest capacity is 32Gb Duocard (and very pricey ~$60-110 USD depending on who you buy it from!!) but the M2's highest capacity is only 16Gb :( but more affordable ~$35 USD.
BEWARE... The PSP 300x is region specific when it comes to videos! PSP 3001 is North America, region 1 whereas PSP 3000 is Japan and Europe. You can NOT watch videos from other regions unless you hack the PSP which is NOT recommended as you may make the unit Non-operational!
It's better to rip your own videos and just transfer it to the media stick!
The video player is good when watching videos which you rip and transfer onto the media card! You must buy your own software to rip DVDs, though!
Games are NOT limited to any regions so you can buy games domestically or internationally. The only limitations would be the cost to buy international games then have it shipped back to your address and that the foreign-based games are in the language in that country since it's not really meant to be sold internationally!
Internet access is SLOW as heck as it uses an Older Wifi format and putting in web addresses are a pain in the asx!
You should use internet access only for:
1. Updates
2. Buy games online (you may buy games internationally but you may not play them sometimes).
3. Skype mode so you can play with other players for certain games.
Battery is low capacity so you'll get ~5 hours of play including music playtime.
Better to buy a higher capacity battery.
You do NOT get a Mini-USB cable for file transfers/updates but you can also buy it. Try your cell phone's Mini-USB cable, if available, since it's compatible :)
Price isn't bad but games are PRICEY!
Buying a foreign model IS pricey esp. when you add the shipping charge!
PSP 3000 model is supposedly old but still a hot seller when it comes to portable gaming. Sony is "supposed" to come out with a newer version but has kept quiet about any details, though PSP fans expect ~2012 for a new version!
