Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo
KENSUKE'S KINGDOM is one of the best children's books I have read for upper elementary school kids! It was recommended to me by my fourth grade teacher son in MN, and I have read it twice -- once to myself and then aloud to my husband. It is hard to put down and keeps you wondering right to the end! It is based around events that could have happened after WWII involving survivors, and it includes the adventure of a British boy thrown overboard in the Pacific Ocean with his dog from his family boat Great story for boys and girls! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

PETEY, a most touching story.
This book was recommended to my son, a fourth and fifth grade teacher in Minnesota. He reads it to his kids in the hopes of helping them to be more kind and considerate of other kids who might be different. This is such an amazing story, based on a real person. I found it riveting and was impressed with the people, along the way in Petey's life who gave him hope. I was so touched by the book that I was in tears when I finished it and called my son in his classsroom to tell him how this amazing book had affected me. I decided to buy the book because it is the kind of literature that I want to have available in my home to share -- have already loaned it out to a daughter to read.
