Good movie despite horrible pre-text

This movie was entertaining, even though the "setup" didn't make sense. Picture it: Global warming freezes the planet, and everyone (worldwide) dies except the inhabitants that boarded this train. The train is totally one-of-a-kind, with a "perpetual motion" engine that needs no fuel, and it has been circumnavigating the globe for 17-years at top-speed (but only making one loop around the planet per year).
...Let's think about this! At top speed, it should only take 8-10 days to race around the planet, considering that the train doesn't stop. And by the way, why would you feel the need to have humanities remaining souls in such a ridiculous situation. If you've got an engine that needs no fuel, just light it off, generate some heat & energy and stay where you are!

Aside from these 2 fatal flaws, the story was "pretty good" ...that means NOT amazing nor incredible, but descent. The characters were not really engaging enough to want to cry if they died, but any background human experience means you can associate with what they were going through, and subsequently why the plot happened.

Climax of the film was again "pretty good" ...I expected to see something different as people from the rear of the train made their way toward the front, and found the locomotive (lead car) to be visually disappointing, but the dialogue revealed in the final scene made it all okay.Lire l'avis complet

Dystopian society on a train

Like the best action-adventure films, not everyone lives and not everyone dies. The only survivors of a new ice age are trapped on a train that endlessly circles the globe. The passengers in the back of the train live in conditions similar to a Nazi concentration camp. Those in front enjoy discos, steak dinners, saunas, swimming pools, and a sushi bar. As a ragtag group of rebels fights its way to the engine, the train cars become successively more luxurious and surreal. The film can best be described as a combination of THE HUNGER GAMES and THE TRUMAN SHOW. The sad truth is that society DOES need balance, and not everyone can live in luxury. Some people are always forced to be on the bottom and/or do the dirty jobs. But people also need freedom of choice and the hope of a better life, even if it boils down to choosing the lesser of two bad outcomes. SNOWPIERCER is a must-see! If you like it, I also recommend EXTINCTION and THE HUMAN RACE, which also deal with themes of difficult choices, survival, and the value of freedom. Lire l'avis complet

Tense and Great Science Fiction

This movie kept me on the edge of my seat though there is too much profanity in it and there needn't be. It was riveting from start to finish and one never knows what is coming up next! I've watched it twice and will watch it many more times. It gets a 10 for it's unique plot, color, and constantly moving action. And of course it has one whopper of an ending! Arkym Asylm Come to Life

To me, it's like comic book illustration at its best. I love SNOWPIERCER. The characters are all very strong and captivating. It is action - packed; I found it exciting. I adore this movie. BUT be aware the entire movie takes place on a train. Can you do it?Lire l'avis complet
