Operation Raccoon City challenges squads of highly trained paramilitary specialists, with third-person shooting and tactical action that plays out in the tense, creepy environments of the influential survival horror series. The narrative looks back to the time of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, with a fresh perspective. In the aftermath of the T-virus outbreak in September 1998, players take the roles of Umbrella Security soldiers, charged with clean-up and cover-up. Armed with the latest bio-organic weaponry, players engage in modern military operations of unilateral morality.
The difficulty of these operations increases exponentially, with the arrival of U.S. Special Forces agents to conduct their own investigations. As elite Umbrella operatives, players must eliminate any evidence of the biological disaster, including the monsters it spawned, as well as any survivors who may escape to expose the truth. Even as the action turns from single-player horror to squad-based shooting, the setting is replete with Resident Evil lore and apprehension-inducing play mechanics. Playing from the perspective of the "bad guys," gamers have an opportunity to rewrite Resident Evil history, by reversing an influential battle or eliminating a key character.
Traditional PvP and PvE elements blend in the games' multiplayer modes, as gamers must battle directly against the bloodthirsty zombie monsters that infest the title location, as well as against operatives on the opposing squad. A four-player co-op mode pits an Umbrella Security Service squad against computer-controlled zombies and government agents. Operation Raccoon City was developed by contemporary SOCOM designer, Slant Six Games, in collaboration with the series creator, Capcom.

Be bad, be very bad, play the other side. Be an Umbrella Special Cleaner..
Playing the Devils Advocate. I've always wondered about this possibility and here it is, playing a special unit within Umbrella, our team is not to fight the bad guys and save good guys. No, we are the bad guys saving our own stuff and killing good guys. Its a different take, instead of encountering different zombies and wondering how they came into being, in this game we already know what to expect, yeah thats a "T-1056" and thats one is a "MP-Version 3" specimen. Our problem is that we are caught in our own zombie mess. Playability is improved as far as the Resident Evil series goes, the controller layout isnt too hard to figure out, I would say its improved a lot but I think it would be helpful if the people who made this game could borrow or learn from other games... but if your a long time player in the Resident evil series, I think its a great improvement from the tanklike controls from the early Zombie-Mansion PS1 game Overall, I like the story, some people say its short but this game took me a less than a week to complete, going at it in 2-3 hour daily sessions. If your a fan of the series I would go for it, I would like to see a more games about this Internal Umbrella Special Unit.
Overall I think RE: ORC is a fun renter or buyer for nice multiplayer.
RE: Operation Raccoon City received poor reviews from IGN and GameInformer. Typically I buy games based on their opinions but in the case of Raccoon City I must disagree with them. The game was filled with bugs so I'm told on opening day but having played around 10 hours of campaign and multiplayer I only see a few small, non game breaking issues. It feel's more like Gears of War than typical Resident Evil games. The shooting mechanic works great, and overall combat is addicting. There are a few things with melee attacks I do not like. You can be constantly knocked down and have no way to dodge out of the way so you are kept in a damage loop until you die. It only happens here and there and most combat is ranged. There are a lot of guns to buy but they get old and I wish there were more options to at least upgrade what guns you have. You can however buy and upgrade player specific abilities. They upgrade your character significantly and make for a well rounded group of fighters. Graphics are well done, and the tone is set in a dark and dreary world, but you can pretty much tear the zombies a new one and it gives you a great sense of power. Finally I don't know what about this game people want to hate so much. I think people get so used to one style of gameplay and they cannot let it go and nothing else will do unless it's what they know.
Way better than the critics say - Dead Space meets Dead Island only better!
I bought this in spite of the fairly negative reviews and I am glad I did. Is it the best Resident evil game - No. Code Veronica and RE2 will always be tops in my book. That said, this game does a really good job at putting you in the action. It is very linear in story telling but if I had to compare, it's Dead Space meets Dead Island. Plenty of zombies, plenty of ammo, plenty of weapons and if you're an RE fan, this is a very good edition.
Yeah I so needed this artwork
When I bought the game all it came with is game and case and no artwork so I could not tell what the game was now that I have the artwork it makes it so much easier to find out what I was looking for thanks a lot for it
