This is one of the original wrestling games for the Sony Playstation. It is the second title created, following Power Move Pro Wrestling. The game has a variety of characters from all over the world. There are 15 WCW Superstars (superstars at the time the game was created, anyway), and 60 wrestlers under aliases in the game. These wrestlers are from around the world, many in Japan, some even from the WWF. They are not under their real name because THQ did not have the copyright to them. The game itself consists of many modes. You control one wrestler at a time, and can take part in any of the following: League Challenge, fight for the belt in a league; Best of Seven, select seven opponents and fight for a new belt; Exhibition, pick any wrestlers and fight; Elimination, choose five wrestlers each, and winner stays on; Tournament, select up to eight wrestlers and battle; League, round-robin, winner is wrestler with most points; and Double Title, two wrestlers fight, winner wins both belts. |

The amount of enjoyment you get out of this game solely depends on your knowledge of pro wrestling from 1994-1999 era. Even though the names of the international characters are changed most likely due to liscensing issues, this roster is loaded. Characters like Sabu (David Harley) and Ken Shamrock (Sherlock) are complete with signature moves, taunts, and gestures. This attention to detail for such a large roster is incredible. While the engine for this game is not as fluid as the current WWE series, it is passable, especially if you liked the play of the AKI games from the 1990s. It features a strong, medium, and weak grapple and strike system. In closing, to truly appreciate such a dated game is to have a familiarity with its source material. If this sounds like you, pick this game up as it may very well be the best WCW wrestling title for the PSone.
Not the best wrestling game but...
It's awesomely fun. I have fond memories of playing this game as a teenager when the PlayStation was still new and groundbreaking. Throw in a healthy dose of being a wrestling fan anyway and this game just made sense. The fact that it turned out freaking awesome was just a plus for THQ and PlayStation.

wcw vs the world ps 1 game
one of the best 1st gen wrestling games, vs the world is a classic in every sense of the word. the first 3d wrestling game on the ps1, the plethora of wrestlers and modes in the game are a marvel for the time. This game has been my favorite wrestling game because of the controls complexity and the dynamic action flow. the first wrestling game also to use taunts and the spirit system is innovative and excellent. This game is just as good as the thq n64 titles and better than the wwf pre-smackdown.

This version may be translated, but I still like the music from Virtual Pro Wrestling on it! I'm hoping to clear all the league challenges with all the characters on this version (as well as on Virtual Pro Wrestling!)
