Following the franchise's legendary return to success under the direction of Crystal Dynamics, Underworld, the studio's sophomore production with Lara Croft, aims to maintain the high level of solid, free-flowing action that reinvigorated the series, while bringing back more of the spooky exploration and challenging jumping puzzles that helped define the classic Tomb Raider games of the late '90s. Developers strove to create a smooth-moving, contextually integrated character. Motion-capture technology is used for the first time in the series, with the 3D recordings of a world-class gymnast bringing Lara's jumps, flips, and kicks to life. In all, Lara's movement throughout the game incorporates over 2,000 animations. It takes a god's weapon to kill a god. Lara is set on a quest to obtain the power of Mjöllnir, the hammer of the invincible Thor. Lara's acrobatics and cunning are pushed to their limits in elaborate, sprawling platform puzzles set among ancient tombs and ruins in the jungles of Mexico, the coast of Thailand, beneath the frigid arctic seas, and in other forbidden places of mystic power around the world. |

Umbrella Review
When Crystal Dynamics took over the production of tomb raider many fans were concerned that it would dimish the serise witch at the time was fading fast but with the success of legen and aniversary tomb raider is now going strong. However even some fans still didn't like what many people consider some of if not the best tomb raiders around well the new edition Tomb Raider underworld will make it diffucult for people to complian. As the sequeal to Legend if may be nessacary for some new to the serise players to read up on what happened to follow the story. This Tomb Raider really is the best so far there are dozens of new feature like being able to point Lara's two guns in different directions a host of new jumping ablities and Lara now moves and acts mutch more like a real person. The enviroments Tomb Raiders are famous for return but on a brand new level through out the game you'll go to Thailand, the Artic circle and mayan underworld to name just some the enviroments are understanding visually and are the largest seen in any tomb raider to date. The game play is a mixture of action, jumping and puzzel solving and really offers a good mixture of them all its also very multilayerd meaning theres more than one way to do things. Also a vast weather grid as been placed allowing for rain to make areas slippery and create mud slides it all that more realistic. The story is brillantly told and intresting and your'll often find your self getting mixtured up in it. A host of characters return like Natla from Aniverrsary/ Tomb Raider 1 but i don't want to give the plot away to mutch. Otherall if your a tomb raider fan you cant afford to miss this adventure and even if your not is still somthing you shouldn't pass up on experincing. Sound - 10 Classic tomb raider music adds atmosphere to any surronding Graphics - 10 The best in Tomb raiders history Gameplay - 10 May take time to learn all the new moves but its worth it Otherall - 30/30 The best Tomb Raider ever i don't know if they'll be able to beat this quality any time soon.
Tomb Raider Underworld (PC Games)
I'm a big fan of Tomb Raider. This game is terrific and well worth the money. It's a well thought out game with lots of mind challenging levels. The grafics are wonderful and I'm looking forward to the next game in the series. If you like games with some challenges in it other than just your average shooting games then you would want this one. The only improvement in it would be to make the humans in the game get shot a little more realistically. Having to shoot someone with a shotgun or assault rifle more than a few times is a little much. I think having pc games being able to have the choice of using the key board and mouse or a game controller is one of the best ideas any pc game could have. I bought Quantum of Solace and I could only use the key board and mouse and that game is only a disappointment to me because there are parts that are very difficult to pass in it because of this. Now I'm stuck in a level and I can't get passed it. This takes all of the fun out of the game.
A fun adventure game
Having played the Tomb Raider series for some time, I was anxious to get started on TR Underworld. The first thing players will notice are the excellent graphics and sounds. This game is packed with action and details, which makes it enjoyable through each of the levels. The puzzles, although not terribly easy, were not difficult unlike past versions. Each puzzle has a logical solution and I do not remember being dumbfounded or frustrated for days as in the past. Hidden treasures and the ability to hop from stage-to-stage after beating the final boss increase the re-play value. This was a fun adventure game, and worth the money. LIKES: -Graphics and soundtrack are awesome -The environments are massive and immersible. You really get a sense of awe throughout different stages. DISLIKES: -New camera controls in this version are frustrating. It takes a while to get used to the controls, and I often found myself yelling at the camera during certain jumps and moves
Another Tomb Raider with Some Improvements.
I figured I would give tomb raider a shot again since it was a PC game I grew up with. The last one I played was the remake of the original, Tomb Raider Legend. They have replaced the awful quick time events with slow motion moments that give you some time to react. It's much better then just pressing buttons and given times. Water is definitly a bigger part of the game and is a nice addition. I am a little over half way though the game so I can't give a full review. What I can say is if you liked the other tomb raiders, you'll like this, and If you don't like TR, well then you still won't care for this much. It still has some camera and platforming issues, but is a fun ride.
Tomb Raider with horrible Camera issues!
I played Tomb Raider Underworld for Playstation 2. So I decided to buy it for my high end system to see all the great graphics, levels and environments. The graphics are just wonderful! Diving into the ocean is breathtaking. Also the environments can be dazzling. Everything from the water, plant life and sky is really incredible. The animals are OK though. The sound is refreshing. Hearing the water move, the sound of the environment and hearing your footsteps is great! It really makes it feel like your there. Controls are really easy to master. Either using your Keyboard and Mouse or using the XBOX 360 PC controller is great. But ONE MAJOR ISSUE: THE CAMERA! When you try to focus the camera in a certain angle like to make a jump, its like the camera is fixed in a certain spot. The Camera makes jumping from ledge to ledge really hard and annoying. So getting through certain area requires a lot of patience. Game Play is also a down fall. If your injured, your health meter will heal on its own. Also if you die, it starts you off where you got the last checkpoint. There really isn't much to get once you get through the game the first time. Yeah you get an extra swimsuit to wear, art, makings of, story boards, etc. But you can't unlock stuff like Unlimited Health, Ammo, Guns, or anything that would make it worth while to go through again. Previous Tomb Raider games had all this. Not here. Collecting hidden treasures just to get the 100% completion isn't fun at all. Finally I bought this game for less than $8.00 and was an average game. Don't buy this Tomb Raider game brand new. You did be wasting money. I would have rated the game good or excellent, but the camera control issues bogged it down. Its no way a bad game. But the developers should have put more time and polished it, then Tomb Raider Underworld would have been something special.
