Product Information | |
Golf superstar Tiger Woods invites gamers back to the links in this "06" edition of EA's exclusive pro golfing game. Once again, players can use EA Sports' "Game Face" tools to create their own custom golfer, and then prove their skills on the virtual links against stars of the sport both past and present, including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, and of course, Tiger himself. A total of 21 real-life golfers are represented, on 11 PGA Tour courses, with 3 additional fantasy courses. New to this year's edition is a "Rival" mode, which allows gamers to challenge stars of the sport in the prime of their games. The control scheme has been enhanced as well, now allowing gamers to use both analog sticks to affect the trajectory of the ball, as well as the power and accuracy of their shots. | |

Good graphics
Compelling gameplay
Good value
Tiger Woods 06 for the GameCube
For the console, Tiger Woods rules the landscape because of no competition. On the PC side, that hasn't always been the case. Having spent more time gaming on the PC than on any console, the only thing I can compare Tiger Woods 06 to is any of the Links LS versions I've played through the years. That isn't exactly fair to EA Sports. Another thing that isn;'t fair to EA Sports is it is a '06 version when the current version at the time of this writing is '10. I am not playing this game on a Gamecube either, I am using a Wii - It could make a difference for load times and such. With those things in mind, I'll begin. Game Play - Woods '06 seems to be more of a arcade game than a golfing simulation like Links. The different modes of game play set Woods apart from Links since Woods has a Tour and Rival mode to be completed. The system is fair start forward - earn points that can to used to increase various skills (driving, spin, ball striking, etc) to become the worlds greatest player of all time. It makes me wonder how the ball flight physics engine makes its calculation since one of the skills is "luck". The inconsistency of ball flight really hurts my grade : C+ Graphics - Nothing awe inspiring, but more than enough to do the job. In a gaming world obsessed with eye candy, Woods 06 is no match for the oldest versions of Links I have. Its not 16 bit Nintendo, but it is not ultra photo realistic either. I would grade graphics for this game a B Swing Control - Being a console game, the input device is going to be limited. I favor golfing with a mouse with a click system for swinging rather than a Gamecube controller. It is hard to take a half swing using a Gamecube controller, which makes shots between clubs extremely difficult. Not being able to move the ball forward or backward in your stance (which can be used to add or subtract distance of a shot) is a serious oversight of EA Sports. Since I have not played the most recent version of the game, I do not know if they have added that function. For what they had to work with, and despite many shortcomings, I would have to give this area a C+ Playability - The game itself is a very easy game to play. There is not much of a learning curve, and the many choice of game modes allow you to get your game together before leaping on the PGA Tour mode. The Rival Mode provides practice against an opponent(s) in a setting that helps you improves your skills while learning how to play. Only on line multiplayer mode is missing from this version, I doubt EA Sports did not include it in newer versions. The number of golf courses supplied is very good - possibly the best feature of the game Grade: B+ In conclusion, for the price it is a good buy. In the future, I'll be looking out for a Tiger Woods version for the Wii. The game is good enough to make me want more, or at least try a newer version - perhaps on a Play Station or PC.
A great game made even better
Tiger Woods PGA Tour golf has been a consistently strong sports franchise on par with Madden football. If you want the best of the best in golf gaming, this is the place to go. Since 2003, updated features such as increased equipment offerings and personal characterization of the characters has strengthened the customization of your playing experience. Playing against the golf legends (Rival Mode) is entertaining, but why are all of the oldest golfers also the worst golfers? I have a hard time believing Chris DeMarco is better than Arnold Palmer. Finally, the added dual-control system is confusing and difficult to use. I find myself very rarely using the C-stick and simply playing the straight shots I am used to from years past. Nevertheless, this is still a must have game for golf enthusiasts, even if it is a little bit on the easy side.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 (Game Cube)
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 is one great golf game you could pick up for a person that wants a serious simulation of golf without having to get off their couch. Tiger Woods is known as one of the top icons in the game of golf, and his game can be used to teach novice, immediate and even advanced players a thing or two about the sport. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 had our eyes wide with awe and we're pretty sure you'll react the same way. Even if you don't appreciate quiet, pink-collared-shirt-wearing golf gaming, this title can probably change your mind.
The Greatest Game Ever Played
This is a must have video game. For those of you who are scratch shooters, or just like to play a good ol' round of golf you need to get this game. The graphics are great and the game is overall tremendous. This game is well worth your while.
game cube tiger ok
The putting is excellent! It is my 3rd Tiger Woods game. It is not the full program they have on playstation, but it plays really well even without the foot adjustments for longer and shorter shots. The skills development is very interesting.
