A cute DVD for young children
This is a slow moving, very colorful storytelling DVD featuring Eric Carle stories. The Very Hungry Caterpillar story is about 6-8 minutes long. It is my daughters favorite so we watch it over and over. The rest of the stories are nice too. Very slow moving with colorful stop animation type drawings. Very reading rainbow if you are familiar with how their format worked. The only thing I don't like about this DVD is there are literally as many minutes of preview ads as there are real content. It take awhile to fast forward through them to get to the real DVD, which is a pain if you have a crabby toddler yelling "Hungry Caterpillar"! Kids over the age of 5 will probably be super bored with this gentle picturesque DVD.

The Eric Carle books are brought to life in this DVD
My son looooves The Very Hungry Caterpillar. He has several copies of the book, including the soft cover and the board book version. In addition, he has the giant board book and fuzzy caterpillar toy that actually fits through the holes. So, when we saw that the book had come out on DVD, we were thrilled to add it to our DVD collection. Keep that in mind when I tell you that my son likes it and was thrilled to see his favorite book character in motion. However, you should know that the pace is slow and the animation is slight, meaning that this is a lot like sitting down to listen to the story. By the time the DVD moves to the next story, Papa Get the Moon for Me, he has lost interest. I suspect that most babies would be in the latter category. So unless your child has a great love for the caterpillar himself, pass on this one.

Great buy for Eric Carle fans!
I bought this DVD for my 3 yr. old granddaughter b/c it is her favorite book. When she saw it, she was DELIGHTED to see her favorite book "come to life"! (I also bought the CD so that she can listen to it in the car) Although she knows the story by heart, she still LOVES for us to read it to her nightly. She often watches the DVD & always loves reciting the story w/ it. The DVD (& CD) not only have "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", but several other stories by Eric Carle. My granddaughter also loves those stories & often recites them to herself. I HIGHLY recommend this DVD, (& the CD) especially if you have a young Eric Carle fan at home!

I enjoy it, even though my son doesn't seem to
I liked this video because it's really nostalgic, but I guess my 18 month old son doesn't really seem to enjoy it all that much. He's more into realistic-looking drawings rather than paper-mache-looking drawings. The classical music in the background is also very soothing, but my son's a little rowdy so he doesn't seem to enjoy it as much as I do. Maybe my next child or a niece or nephew of mine might enjoy it... or when my son gets a little older. But it's a very nice video -- very true to the books.
