I purchased this because I wanted to review algebra after decades out of college. ... I purchased this because I wanted to review algebra after decades out of college. When I was in college this kind of calculator was only a science fiction dream. The high tech device back them was the slide rule--which I never fully conquered. I am happy with the purchase. My granddaughter will be taking algebra I in high school this Fall and when she spotted it on my desk she immediately knew what it was and said she may have to buy one if the school does not provide one for free. So it is definitely a must have if you plan to study high school or college level math courses.
It is not that easy to work sometimes. I found I needed to purchase the Graphing Calculator Manual by Judith A Penna (I had already owned her Precalculus textbook)to learn how to use this machine to solve textbook problems. Even with this book, some of the functions did not work as predicted. I emailed TI assistance weeks ago and never heard back from them. So I had to figure it out myself. This was a blessing in disguise because it forced me to work at it until I got it right.
The machine is much bigger than I thought it would be. I had imagined a cell phone sized item. Its about as big as two phones merged into one.

In fact, the two calculators are almost identical (with the exception of the 84’s additional features and improved hardware) so you will be able to begin using it almost instantly. The TI-84 Silver was actually designed as an upgrade to its predecessor, the TI-83 Silver, in 2004.

I've tried it and it has worked perfectly. So far no problems. I bought this for the price I paid. My math course required a TI-83 or Higher. and the features were better for the same or better price.

Sure, you don't have color displays or backlit screens, but the batteries last really long, and you still have advanced computation features. Rock solid and reliable product.
