Kat Ellis's (Debra Messing) worst nightmare is about to come true. Not only is her younger, half-sister, Amy (Amy Adams), getting married before her, but to add insult to injury, the groom's (Jack Davenport) best man is Kat's ex-fiancée, Jeffrey (Jeremy Sheffield). Two years after being dumped, Kat is a single New Yorker and can't bear to attend the festivities at her parent's London home alone, so she does the next best thing: she hires an escort to play her boyfriend. Her rented date, Nick (Dermot Mulroney), fits the bill perfectly. He's handsome, intelligent, well spoken, intuitive, and a perfect gentleman--a virtual bargain at $6,000. The plan? Make Kat's ex sorry that he ever let her go.But the plan takes a turn when Kat finds herself attracted to Nick, and the feeling seems to be mutual. But will their business arrangement stand in the way of a relationship? And just what is it that Kat's ex has been dying to tell her? Messing is endearing as Kat, who seems to be simultaneously bewildered and bemused by her situation. Mulroney, meanwhile, is at his most charming as Nick. Clare Kilner (HOW TO DEAL) directs this romantic comedy set in London and the English countryside, which also features Holland Taylor as Kat's slightly overbearing mother and Peter Egan as her loving stepfather. Sarah Parish is a hoot as the sisters' bawdy British cousin. | |

The Wedding Date (DVD, 2005)
When a single New York woman receives an invitation to her half-sister Amy's (Amy Adams) wedding in London she is horrified, not only because it is her younger sister who's getting married, but because the best man is her former fiancee, Jeffrey; the guy who jilted her! Now, in order to go to the wedding she must have not only a date, but she must invent a fiancee, and he must be "hunky" enough to make her ex jealous enough to want her back. Kat Ellis (Debra Messing) hires a smooth male escort Nick Mercer (Dermot Mulroney), to play the part of her new fiancee. Things get dicey when Nick is so convincing, that everyone there is totally convinced that they are engaged, even Kat! Before long they actually fall in love. Then, the night before the wedding, Kat finds out that her sister Amy is the one who came between her and Jeffrey. She also finds out that Amy told Nick. He didn't see anything good coming from telling Kat, and when she found out, she blew up at Nick. Now, for the first time caught in emotionally uncharted waters, Nick decides to just return to New York and chuck it all up to bad luck! Just before the wedding, Kat has a heart-to-heart with her Step-dad, and he convinces her that she is making a mistake. She tells him that she loves Nick and she rushes back to the house to apologize and salvage the relationship, but just misses him. Nick left an envelope with all of the money Kat had paid him for the trip on the bed addressed to Kat. Finding the money, she is convinced that he loves her too. In the mean time, Amy tells ED (her fiancee) about Jeffrey. Mad as hell, he goes after Jeffrey to kick his but. . . Jeffrey runs like hell. Nick picks up Ed while he is chasing Jeffrey, and after a heart-to-heart, Ed discovers that he is still in love with Amy, and with Nick as his best man, they get married. Nick and Kat reconcile and also decide to marry. This is a fun movie, and the musical score is exceptional.
The Wedding Date
Kat Ellis is looking for the right man. NOW. The position comes with a few requirements: willingness to travel, keen social skills, good looks, suave demeanor, sharp mind--and a tux. The qualified candidate should also have the ability to make ex-boyfriends jealous, to turn heads whenever entering a room and to reduce any woman within eye-and earshot to a week-kneed besotted admirer. Dermont is here. Not only was the leading man in this film amazing(along with a few other cast members), this story is one that leaves you in a happy mood and wanting to go see it again. It combines the perfect amount of humour, passion/love, and happieness. This movie is one that you definately should go and see.
Great Romantic Comedy with a Wonderful Soundtrack!!!!
I love this movie. The dvd doesn't have many extras but the film is great. It's about an insecure woman (Debra Messing) who hires a male escort (Dermot Mulroney) to attend her younger sister's wedding in England. Dermot is very sexy in this film. He oozes sex appeal. Debra also does a good job in a cute role that is similiar to ones by Sandra Bullock or Meg Ryan. If you like romantic comedies (chick flicks) like When Harry Met Sally, Pretty Woman, While You Were Sleeping, My Best Friend's Wedding, etc., then you'll love this movie. It also has a flirty, sweet, and romantic soundtrack with many great Micheal Buble songs such as "Home," "Sway," and "Save the Last Dance for Me." This movie is a definite winner for hopeless romantics.
The Wedding Date
Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroy. I myself, never would have believed anyone could do a romantic movie like this for a guy. This is a keeper guys! To great stars in a movie together with lifes ups and downs and laughter and drama. This is a great film to rent or buy and watch with your girlfriend or the wife. The film starts with debra renting a giggolo dermot, to go to England where her half sister is getting married. She brings the giggolo along to make her ex-boyfriend jealous. The table gets turned around when everyone but debra and her future brother in law are concerned. Her half sister has an affair with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend decides to call it quits while chasing the half sister who is getting married. In the meantime, Dermot is falling for Debra in the worst way. They have sex on the boat in the fathers front yard. Dermot leaves and goes into the house. She wakes up on the boat alone and goes inside as well. This scene and from here on out sets the stage for the rest of the film, where comedy and drama all take place. I loved the film. Because it was at this point it was so believeable. Especially if you been there and done that. A great couples film. Sex is not shown only hinted at. Hooray, for films like these, we need more of them!
another "pretty woman"
"Tremendously funny." said Shawn Edwards, from FOX-TV," Debra Messing and Dermont Mulroney are PERFECT together."said Andrea Vecchio, NBC-TV, However I must disagree!! this movie is nothing more than a bad version of "Pretty Woman", in my opinion. Well almost since in this movie the hired escort is a man named Nick who is played by Deromnt Mulroneywho. Kat(messing)hires nick to attend her younger sisters wedding with her to avoid redicule from her family after her own weddind fell through. the plot has a few unexpected twist which are interesting but dont add much to the movie, i was confused by the end and there wasnt much closuere. so if you wand a good movie with the right mix of comedy, drama, and twist rent "Pretty Woman" because it's the same type of movie but cheeper.
