Star Wars: Rogue Squadron lets you strap into the cockpit of an X-wing fighter as you attempt to lead your squadron to victory over the mighty Empire. Set between Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, the game spans sixteen 3D levels in a variety of locales including Mos Eisley, Kessel, the Imperial Construction Yards, Mon Calamari, and Corellia. You'll also be given the chance to fly four additional ships (plus some hidden ones) during the course of play: an A-wing, Y-wing, V-wing and snowspeeder. While the ships all use laser cannons as their primary weapons, they also carry secondary weapons such as photon torpedoes or concussion missiles, depending on the craft. After listening to your objectives, you'll be sent to a planet's surface (there are no space battles in the game) to carry out the mission, whether it's protecting Rebel bases or ships from Imperial attacks, rescuing downed crews, wrapping up AT-ATs with tow cables, or simply mounting an assault on the Empire's key bases. Since you won't be flying solo during the missions, your wingmen will keep you apprised of the situation at all times with radio chatter (over 30 minutes worth of speech has been included). As the founding members of Rogue Squadron, Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles are the two primary characters you'll play as during the game. This 128-Meg cartridge supports both the Rumble Pak and Expansion Pak for feedback and Hi-Res mode, respectively, and includes three data files to record your initials and progress. The game will also keep track of the medals you receive, which are based on how well you perform during each mission. Earn gold medals to unlock secrets. |

Good graphics
Compelling gameplay
Good value
An N64 Classic
Probably the second best racer on the N64 (top honors going to Mario Kart 64 obviously). I personally didn't get into Wave Race until the GameCube with Wave Race Blue Storm, which is possibly my all time favorite racing game, so to me the N64 version pales slightly in comparison. The controls are much more floaty here than in Blue Storm, not nearly as tight and reactive, but whenever i hear someone comparing 64 to Blue Storm they mention how 64 controlled so much better, so i'm probably in the minority on that one. The graphics on 64 are probably on par with Blue Storm, though one generation behind (although the water in Blue Storm is probably the best video game water i've ever seen). The music in 64 functions well enough, while in Blue Storm it's one of my favorite things about the game. But the main thing in any Wave Race game is the water physics, and it kind of blows my mind that they were able to get the N64 to pull off such realistic looking and feeling wave effects. All in all, Wave Race 64 is a strong start to a great series, and a fun game in it's own right. Highly recommended.
Great Game That Lacks Story and Features
Great gameplay that encourages replaying missions with different ships and strategies to get better medals and graphics for an N64 game, but no tutorial or control explanation and lack of cohesive story might make it difficult for some to find it engaging.

Surprisingly fun, over 5 years later
Looks pretty good for an n64 game, especially with the expansion pak high definition mode. Gameplay is pretty decent for a single stick flight shooter, and has a few fun cheats to play with

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was one of my favorite games from N64 because: I love Star Wars, the game was easy to learn, and immensely fun. Rogue Squadron was a great buy back in 1998 when I it was given to me and my two brothers and still a great game today. Rogue Squadron had a great campaign was challenging at extremely re-playable. I played this game through multiple times because you have access to so many crafts from X-Wings, A-Wings, V-Wings, and my favorite the Snowspeeder(there was even more with cheat codes such as: Tie Fighters, the Millennium Falcon, the Naboo Starfighter, etc.). The level ranking system also gave you an incentive to keep playing it until you could get perfect scores on all the levels. Perhaps one of the great accomplishments of the game was how easy it was to learn how to play. Even now after being used to two analog controllers it is still easy to pick up and great to play. If the game has any fault its that it is fairly easy to win yet with the ranking it can be challenging to achieve top scores. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is a great buy for your N64 system still after twelve years!
Love This Game!
I had this game decades ago and loved it back then. This game brought me back as soon as I plugged it into the N64 system. Quality is excellent and no issues.
