The sequel to 1999's Star Wars: Episode I: Racer, Star Wars: Racer Revenge brings the fictional sport of Podracing to the PlayStation 2. A cast of 18 characters is available for selection, introducing new racers to the fold as well as welcoming back old favorites like Sebulba and Anakin Skywalker. Thirteen tracks are spread across five planets, including the seldom seen Mon Calamari and Sullust. Aggressive racing is encouraged, with bonus trugnuts awarded for completely eliminating opponents from the race. Players can then spend this money on upgraded parts in the areas of acceleration, top speed, handling, defense, repair, and cooling. Boosts can also be used during the race, but abuse of this feature will overheat the engines and cause them to explode. Single, Versus, and Tournament are the three featured modes, with the first allowing players to competitively race on any unlocked track, practice it, or take part in timed runs. Versus mode is a two-player race on any of the available tracks. Tournament makes up the bulk of play, requiring players to take one character through a career on the Podracing circuit. An alternative control scheme is included in the title, making use of both analog sticks to guide each corresponding engine (the left stick controls the left engine, while the right stick controls the right engine). This setup closely mimics the Podracers seen in the Star Wars movie, Episode I: The Phantom Menace. |

Good graphics
Compelling gameplay
Good value
Racer Revenge not as good as original.
I bought it because last week I became a huge fan of Star Wars Episode 1 Racer. The boost system was unique and fun, the whole game was unique. The tracks could be very difficult, painstakingly so, but the whole game was pretty amazing. I can't believe I ignored it when I was a kid. This game is pretty solid. But that's all it is. Solid. The game looks nice, the announcer is okay. His repeat commentary isn't so bad as it is in other games where it's plain that they're just using the same phrases with different names inserted. But the game is just solid. There's no need for an air brake. Ever. The only real change is that once you crash the race is over. You get bonus truguts for how many people you crash, but that isn't as easy as it sounds. Unlike Burnout, ramming your opponent into a wall will not make them explode. Even though if you've seen the movie or just understand the logistics of a Podracer you could tell that would be impossible. All you can do is try to rub against them as much as possible, which can take forever and usually does, especially if your opponent has a high defense. All you really need to do is hold L1 to repair the whole time and he has no chance, except to blow past you and make enough room so you can never catch up (which is the case about half the time.) I like to race, and I like to crash other racers. This game had a lot of polish, that's for sure, and it looks really good for 2002. But what's that that Sarah Palin says? Something retarded about putting lipstick on a pig? I dunno. But that's all this is. The game is okay. Just okay. It looks way better than it is. And unlocking Darth Maul? What is this, Bombad racing? Jeez.
Fun game, but not as good as the original.
I had the original Star Wars: Racer for the PC, and I was completely addicted to it. I raced for hours on end, and didn't rest until I had beat every race, and maxed out my pod racer. I recently picked up the sequel, Racer Revenge, because I finally got a PS2. (Hey, the PS3 had been out for a year, so why not?) It's still a lot of fun, but not quite as good as the original. It's hard to see on a lot of the tracks, and the added "feature" of getting a bonus for trashing your opponents' pods is annoying. Overall I give it four stars.
Pod Racing Madness
This game is great. I never realized they made this sequel on the PS2 but I loved the original in N64. This game brings back alot of nostalgia but can be a little difficult, but still a most play for any star wars pod racer fan.

If you love Star Wars you have to love pod racing and you can race a friend
If you like Star Wars you have to have this game! The graphics are pretty good, it is fast paced, and very closely resembles the scenes from the movie. The tracks are a little short, it would be nice if they had some longer races. It is really cool that in two player mode there are still other competitors in the race too. Though some of the tracks are hard to see in two player mode with the smaller split screnes. On some of the tracks with tubes that you fly through it is easy to get turned sideways and spin around a circle. When you add the extra challenge of knocking out competitors it makes it very interesting.
Great fun and competitive game!
This game was purchased as a gift, so it was reported that it was fun to play. The graphics where pretty good. Racers go fast and it can be played by only one person. One player would compete with game generated players. Multiple human players are more fun, of course. There is a meter at the bottom of the screen that monitors the players life and how fast the players are going. The audio commentaries and music was great too. Game for all ages. My 10year old son and my 20year old son enjoyed this racing game.
