| Prepare to do battle against some of the most gruesome mutant monsters in Mutant League Football. While football itself is already a fairly gory game, this game will make you think of those players in a whole new way. Released in 1993 by Electronic Arts, Mutant League Football is one of several sports games available for the Sega Genesis system. Collectors of retro games enjoy this title for its fast-paced action and interesting characters.Mutant League Football takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where mutants run wild and participate in a football league for fun. Even though you don't know why humans are now monsters, as the data was lost in the chaos of the world ending, you'll still have fun as you play in a mutant league. The instruction manual also comes with some fun tidbits about the gameplay and characters in Mutant League Football.Some of the more interesting features of the title are the obstacles and hazards that you come across on the field. Those can range from large ice fields to rubber pits and landmines. Running into any of those obstacles during one of your games will drain your health or even kill you and knock you out of the game. It also lets you pick up items that you can use on the referees to make them call plays in your favor. Adding to the game's twisted sense of humor, referees can accidentally die when they encounter the game's obstacles as well. You can also use Nasty Audibles, violent or tricky methods to move down the field, which consists of such items as exploding balls, jet packs, and invisibility.As is common with arcade games from this era, you'll use the up, down, left, and right buttons on the controller to move your player across the field. Use the other buttons to dodge opponents, jump across the field, and do other movements. The more you play, the more special moves and full moves you unlock.Each time that you play, you can choose teams comprised of trolls, aliens, and other unique creatures. Many of the characters in the game feature names similar to real athletes. Bo Jackson fans will like Bones Jackson, and Joe Montana fans will appreciate Joe Magician. It also features all-star teams and different conferences, too.Producer Sam Nelson and his team created Mutant League Football for Sega fans of monster games who wanted to create and play on a team. Because of its unique style, offering a fun and exciting twist on the classic football game, this is one of the top football games for the Genesis console. You'll love all the characters available and the excitement of avoiding obstacles and bribing refs. Mutant League Football can be played in single-player mode as well as multiplayer mode. Then this one is for you! The only upsetting thing about this game is why all mighty was this never made into more games? I like to play College and Madden Football just as much as the next guy in line does. But sometimes I like to break away from the norm. The blitz games are pretty cool but they just don't have that extra barbaric touch like this game does. Orcs, Skeletons, Barbarians slugging it out on the field killing eachother getting blown up by land mines or falling into fire pits. And who wouldn't like to kill the ref every now and again? It's lots of fun to play and a pretty simple one to pick up and learn unlike modern day football games, while they look flashy they have a steep learning curve and can be frustrating to learn. This is fun old school smash mouth football gaming at it's best. If you grew up with these games or just like older games then you can't go wrong here! 10 out of 10!

best football game ever!!
In my opinion this was one of the greatest football games ever. I enjoyed it so much as a kid I had to buy it again when they brought the Genisis system back out.

Old School Spin on Football.
Mutant League Football is old school fantasy style football at its finest. As kids, we ran this cart and the Genesis hot playing this game for hours on end. Aliens, robots, skeletons and the best were the trolls. War Slammers was the best team and the Sixty Whiners was the worst team made up of weak skeleton players. You could bribe the ref once per game to call phony penalties, You could even kill the bribed ref. Which made for some hilarious antics. The graphics and game play are somewhat irrelevant today. But for those who hunger for video games of the yesteryear era, they will appreciate this spin-off of a football game called Mutant League Football
Retro and Fun
This is a fun game with all the weird creatures running around playing football. It's fun to watch while my gamer-husband plays.
