Easy to set up
Easy to use
Performs well
Easy setup on old analog TV, good free options: As expected and then some
Very easy to set up for my old analog TV, though onscreen text is pretty small on a 20". Was happy to find I could listen through headphones by installing the Android app on my phone. Was not so happy to find that there is no mute button on the real or virtual remotes. LOTS of channels to explore, though "Featured Free" channels are often not free to actually stream, just their app is free. Also, some channels don't adjust well the the 4:3 ratio of an older TV. Roku Channel works well, however, and I was also happy to find that I could connect my Kanopy (public library streaming) account to the Roku, so I can watch my selections on my TV as well as my laptop. I love that I can switch devices (e.g., TV to laptop, or even phone) so I can keep watching while I cook dinner, etc. It can be a little glitchy sometimes. For example, when I start a new episode, the closed captions show even when they are set to off - the fix for this is to turn them on (NOT intuituve)! Once, the Roku channel went down, but it didn't seem to be publicized anywhere, so I spent 20 minutes trying to fix my internet connection, which it turned out was not the problem. They need to do a better job of making system status easy to check. Another time, the Roku settings got reset to a very tall vertical ratio (9:16 maybe?), which meant most settings were off the top of the screen where I couldn't see them. When I clicked something I could see, the item two lines down was selected instead. The fix for this is to restart the Roku device, the setting for which is buried way deep in a sub-submenu of the system settings. It took quite a bit of time to figure all of this out. Still, as frustrating as these experiences were, I have overall been very happy with my Roku Express+ and I certainly feel I got my money's worth. I have almost completely stopped watching broadcast TV.

Wow. Roku Express + seems amazing
After using a LG Blu-ray player to watch Netflix on an old TV, I got a newer TV that still wasn't smart. Added this Roku Express Plus to the new TV and Wow. So pretty. So sharp. And kinda bright. Guess the TV will need a brightness adjustment. Setup was not bad. It was kinda cool. Used my cellphone to help do the code things, and I even watched a Roku video on my laptop on how the setup would go. Shucks, didn't really need the video. Too easy. The Roku steps came through one at a time on the TV screen. Oh, and the picture, yum yum. Big difference between the old composite hook up type TV that has terrible resolution and the Samsung flat screen 24 inch screen. But with the Roku added, Wow. Access to stuff made so easily. That LG Blu-ray player was so bleeping slow and hard to figure out to get it to do anything like Netflix and whatever. But Roku is quick and easy. Yes, Quick. Not going to use the so called smart LG Blu-ray player for anything but discs from now on. God, I'm so happy I took the chance on buying this Roku.

nice for the right situation
This tiny little device is Only wireless. It has an hdmi port, an AV plug for the DVD player cord (red yellow white) and a power port. That's it. This one is 30 ' from my router and occasionally there is a disconnect from the internet, but it has so far always reconnected automatically. The picture is good, the controller, also smaller than the regular ones, seems to be well-made and responsive at just a bout any angle. You get a little adhesive strip to stick the device anywhere, I put it on top of the TV and you never notice it's there. So if you want wireless only this is great, and a super value.

Works as advertised! For me installation on this unit was terrible!
I have been eliminating cable boxes as they will start billing me $5 each month come May. Each one that I have purchased has worked just as advertised. As for the installation on this specific unit, I had a terrible experience. I have always used MAC address filtering for my Wireless security. On the box as well as on the unit itself, stamped pretty small for my bifocals even, was a different MAC address than the software reported. The second digit cannot be an ODD number and the box and the unit matched with a "C5" as the first two digits. Hence Linksys told me my routers were too primitive for the newer technology - WRONG! I went to the extreme of purchasing two new routers for my home; totally not necessary. When I went about the install form the software in the ROKU unit there was a completely different MAC address suggested to enter into my MAC filtering on my existing router. Wa-lah it worked just as it was supposed to. I'm giving my ratings on the performance of the unit which I think is an excellent product not on the installation. As for the installation I am not sure what happened. The label on the box for the number that was labeled “Device ID,” which I considered being the MAC address, was what I attempted to enter without any joy. Could it be that it was never meant to identify the MAC address, even thought it was the correct amount of numbers, and was identifying something else?

OLD TV, this is the ROKU for you. Must have 2.4Ghz wifi, no ethernet jack.
I have two older TVs with no HDMI input. I hook up Roku with the analog RCA jacks. Obviously, I only get 720p but works fine. This one is more powerful than the older Express+ and I do see it. Mainly for me in load time switching between streams. But since this has HDMI output too it will work with a new TV purchase too.
