Nokia E71x
After coming from the Nokia E62, the only phone I was interested in, when it was time to upgrade, was the E71x. Nokia has never let me down and this phone is pretty great. I haven't had any trouble with dropped calls and the sound clarity is very good while on calls. The speakerphone also works rather well. The phone is so amazingly thin and is comfortable in the hand. It's very light weight. The qwerty keyboard feels much tighter than my E62 but texting is still rather easy. The layout is rather uncomplicated and allows quick access to your calendar, clock, email, etc. Profiles allow for different settings such as outdoor, normal, meeting, etc that can be customized to your liking with different tones. Web surfing is very quick on the 3G network. I haven't had any problems with page delays. Unfortunately, AT&T has many loaded apps that waste memory and space. The majority must be purchased in order to use them. The one neat app, however, is cellular video. This app allows you to watch recorded video of breaking news, soap operas, tv shows, etc. There is a search box to find just about anything you might want to watch. This app is free as long as you have the data plan on the phone. The only real issue with this phone is dust under the screen. It can get terribly annoying making it hard to read your screen. Even with a screen protector, the dust gets in. This is an easy fix with a T5 screwdriver. Remove a few screws, remove the screen, dust off, and replace screen. How often this will need to be done depends on the phone. I find myself doing this process once every few weeks. I hope Nokia will find a fix for this issue. Overall, this phone is very cool and definitely worth the money. I'm truly loving it. As I said earlier, Nokia has never let me down and makes one heck of a smartphone. I highly recommend this phone.

Friendly Smart Phone
I picked the E71x by Nokia due to their reputation for good sound quality and user friendliness. I wanted a Smart Phone that was easy to learn, fun to use, fully functional, and sanely priced. Was determined to keep my search under $200, and since my very first cellphone was a Nokia -- way back in the day -- I found a perfect test subject on eBay (very slightly used for $170). You might even do better on CraigsList. On the plus side: (1) nice looking phone -- very Blackberry-like in appearance; (2) fully qwerty key board -- easy to maneuver and type; (3) keys, while seeming very tight and close together, actually are amazingly easy to work on; (3) better and more consistent call quality (AT&T signal) than any other phone I have used (I change phones frequently due to fickleness); ... I picked the E71x by Nokia due to their reputation for good sound quality and user friendliness. I wanted a Smart Phone that was easy to learn, fun to use, fully functional, and sanely priced. On the plus side: (1) nice looking phone -- very Blackberry-like in appearance; (2) fully qwerty key board -- easy to maneuver and type; (3) keys, while seeming very tight and close together, actually are amazingly easy to work on; (3) better and more consistent call quality (AT&T signal) than any other phone I have used (I change phones frequently due to fickleness); (4) Nokia's PC Suite is simple and straightforward -- synching is fast and foolproof; (5) battery life is exceptional -- even with lots of calls and texts, my battery lasts 3-4 days without recharging; (6) it's really fun to use -- tempting to just play with -- you can put your whole life on it (it will take up to an 8gb mini SD -- rumors are rampant that it can take more, but 8gb is all I have now; (7) the SD card is easy to access from the side, so you don't have that annoying task of dismantling the entire phone to get to the memory card; (8) the screen is small but images are crisp and sharp -- and refreshingly readable in sunlight -- a genuine bonus, for sure; (9) pictures look great and videos transfer easily and are easy on the eyes; (10) songs sound good -- listening to music on my phone is not really my thing -- I have a Nano for that -- but in a pinch, the sound quality is fully acceptable. On the minus side: (1) a really heavy phone: I moved from a Blackberry 8100 Pearl, which I loved and is lighter, to a small brick, but it doesn't really feel all that heavy in the pocket -- barely noticeable, actually; (2) the Symbian curve is a little weird when you begin -- not quite as intuitive as the Blackberry or even the simplistic Motorola Razor, but it takes a few days to adjust; (3) a few too many layers/levels to perform simple tasks -- shortcuts eliminate this, but it takes some studied practice to learn them -- definitely worth the effort, but the phone seems unnecessarily cluttered; (4) most definitely screams for a protective skin -- the weight alone makes you paranoid about dropping the thing on the nearest sidewalk -- I got a cheap but effective black silicone wrap. It's now easy to grip and difficult to let slip. Highly recommended, though -- Nokia should really ship the phone with one of these. Overall, a great tool/toy for calling, texting, and e-mail. Not so much for internet use -- okay but it's certainly not an iPhone -- but if all you need is the basic 3, you'll be delighted. Might stay with this phone for a while.

My First SmartPhone Is A Hit
I bought the Nokia e71 earlier this summer and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. After quite a bit of research I decided to go with this phone because I liked the small size and wifi capability. I wanted an unlocked phone so that I could avoid both the Carrier's Contract and Data Plan. Now that I have used the phone for many weeks I can say it does everything I wanted in a small compact size. The build quality seems to be excellent and battery life is very good. If you are primarily interested in a phone to stay in touch via email and texting the Nokia is an excellent choice. The keyboard is very good and I find it easy to use. The phone does not have touch screen, but that was not a deal breaker for me. About the only negative I have about the Nokia is the lack of Mac ... Great Smartphone!
I bought this phone last week and received it today, one week later. Ebay rocks and the seller, being in another state, was great keeping me up to date on my order status through MyEbay messages. I decided to buy this phone on Ebay because I got it for a better price than anywhere else I had compared to. Also to avoid additional "smartphone fees" through my provider. Even w/out paying the "smartphone fees" this phone has WiFi capabilities that allows online access. The phone features are fantastic and comparable to a Blackberry or any other smart phone out there. It is an elegant and slick phone. The only feature that bothers me is the physical width of the phone even though it is slim in thickness. My recommendation would be to take a look at any phone in person before purchasing any ... I bought this phone last week and received it today, one week later. very good phone and features, limited by AT&T lock
Nice phone, works well.The keys are a little small. The PC Suite software downloaded and setup very nicely and works extremely well. Use of the display greatly impacts the battery life. Items locked up by AT&T are a little frustrating in it limits ability to delete things you probably don't want like their shopping applications. The operating system is a little cumbersome requiring more key strokes sometimes than seems to be needed. Have no experience with e-mail as the desire was to sync with Lotus notes calender which works very well. Suggest considering an E71 versus the E71x to avoid the AT&T mandated changes. Was able to download Nokia Maps, but still requires a subscription for turn by turn directions. Can subscribe to Nokia Maps an as needed basis. The Wi-Fi finder doesn't work as ... Otherwise, the Wi-Fi set up was easy as well.
