|Publisher:||Ignition Entertainment||Platform:||Microsoft Xbox 360|
|Genre:||Mystery||Game Name:||Deadly Premonition|
Deadly Premonition puts gamers in the shoes of FBI agent Francis York Morgan (and his split personality Zach) as he travels to the small wooded town of Greenvale to investigate the murder of a beautiful young woman named Anna Graham. Heavily influenced by Twin Peaks and other David Lynch works, Greenvale once bustled with life thanks to the local lumber mill, but is now only a shadowy village that plays host to a smattering of eccentric locals who are plagued by mysterious events and supernatural creatures.
The gruesome murder foments a sense of distrust among the townspeople, and players must help calm fears while they gather clues, speaking with more than 20 unique characters and forming personality profiles in the process. Greenvale operates on a 24-hour cycle, and gamers can explore the area freely, joining its inhabitants for dinner and drinks, going fishing, and heading to the outskirts of town to search for clues to solve the so-called Red Seed Murders. The adventure-style investigation is offset by periods of action in which Agent Morgan must fend off pasty Shadow monsters and avoid the fabled Raincoat Killer, a lightning quick enemy who leaves gamers with little choice but to flee or die.

One of a kind action/comedy/horror gem. There is absolutely nothing else like it.
Never have I played a game that had me laughing, scared and glued more than Deadly Premonition did. Absolutely under no circumstances do not let yourself find out anything about the story before you jump in to this weird and wonderful Action/Horror/Comedy. You'll love it that much more if you can keep it a secret. Pros: Some of the best storytelling, comedy, character development and setting I've ever seen in any video game. Ever. There is no other video game like Deadly Premonition. It's a shame too. I'd love to go back again to play it for the first time. Truly One of a Kind. Cons: Graphics are straight out of PS2 era. Tank controls (ala Resident Evil 2). Driving (at first! - it gets much better if you put some work in!) The map system is also a bit confusing at first too. All this being said - I believe all of these "faults" are purposely done to the player and all contribute to make Deadly Premonition what it is. 5/5 stars for a gripping, insane and hilarious scarefest that is impossible to replicate. If you think you've played everything - you haven't until you've seen what this gem has to offer. Maybe some day we'll be lucky enough to get a Deadly Premonition 2 where we learn a little more about York's past adventures/cases... One can only dream.

Deadly Premonition is both awful and absolutely amazing. On the one hand, the controls are clunky. The visuals are also PS2-esque. But for all its problems, DP shines as a unique comedy, horror, and story-driven game. The cutscenes are delightfully amusing and hilarious. The characters are definitely memorable, with a few nods to Twin Peaks. And there are a hundred other details that keep this game fresh for a long time. Even the occassional mistranslated sign is somehow amusing enough to warrant a glance and a laugh with friends. Whether you like this game or not will depend on your sense of humor and adventure. If you like pleasant eccentricity, bizarre (and sometimes awkward) humor, exploration, and laughing at the game a bit; then this game is for you. Make no mistake, DP has its problems. Exploration is made more difficult by a lack of map zoom-out. Combat is tedious, so set the difficulty to easy! Chase scenes that have you rapidly moving the thumbstick are a little tiresome. In spite of all of that though, I find myself wanting to revisit Greenvale. And I recommend the Xbox 360 version. Though the Directors Cut has a better map, the added cutscenes detract from the story's unity and mystery.

Not the most well designed game
Despite that, I love this game to death. Almost everything about it pulls you in and keeps you there until you've done everything there is to do. It's so charming that you simply don't mind the mediocre combat/driving.

So bad that it's good! Minus the controls.
I got this game because I heard last year that it's one of those "so bad, it's good" games. Which is very true. I enjoy this 360 horror game (with what looks to be ps1 graphics, haha). Only issue I personally had were the controls. Took a while for me to get used to using the right trigger to aim and the left analogue stick to move where I'm aiming at. Also is weird to use X to run and A to shoot. But whatevz
