Work your way up through the ranks of the 1947 L.A. police department in "L.A. Noire" for the PlayStation 3. Deal with politics, corruption, and more than a hint of scandal while still finding time to fight crime. This video game revolves around Cole Phelps, a WWII veteran and new recruit to the Los Angeles Police Department. Phelps starts off as a uniformed patrolman. The story follows him as he becomes a detective and advances through the levels of the police department. "L.A. Noire" was developed by Team Bondi and published by Rockstar Games in 2011. Its cinematic style is based on noir films from the 1940s and '50s. The hard-boiled crime genre has previously never been tried before in a PS3 game. It is an action-adventure game with an ESRB rating of M (Mature). The main gameplay of "L.A. Noire" is made up of 21 cases. The cases are spread across five desks that represent the police department's divisions, including homicide and arson. On each case, Phelps is assigned to a different partner, each of whom has their own distinctive motivations. You will be asked to search crime scenes as well as the homes of the victims for clues. At the end of the case, players receive a rating based on how well they did. An important component of the game is interrogations. You can question witnesses and suspects in order to judge how trustworthy they are. The game will then give you three options: truth, doubt, or lie. If you guess correctly, the person will give you more information. However, if you wrongly accuse a person of lying, they won't give you very much information. Make the wrong decision repeatedly, and the case will be more difficult to solve. Events can change based on the choices you make. You can replay a case once it is over to find out where different choices will lead you. "L.A. Noire" has an open-world environment, which allows you to explore the streets of 1940s Los Angeles. The setting of the PS3 title was recreated with an attention to detail. The cars, clothes, buildings, and music all feel authentic to the time period. There is even an option to play the entire game in black and white. In addition to the main cases, there are 40 short, action-based missions that you can take on. These include stopping bank robberies and shadowing criminals. Car chases, foot chases, and shootouts are also key parts of the game. Players can take cover and use the aim-assist option, which makes it easy to target your foes. The characters in "L.A. Noire" for the PS3 were created using MotionScan technology. This method uses a number of cameras to capture an actor's facial expressions. As a result, the characters' facial movements and body language seem more realistic than in video games with traditional animation. This is especially important in the interrogation scenes in which you have to judge if a person is lying. | |

Good graphics
Compelling gameplay
Good value
Great game, but not great replay value. Fun as well as different, though.
In interesting game, but not the game that I'd have hoped for. There was plenty of interesting new design, and engaging game play. The story was good, but the open world was not very useful or fun. Rockstar has mastered the open-world game play with the Grand Theft Auto series, but this game lacks the options and senseless fun that one can have in those games. The game quality is tremendous, and the character design and animation is great. As far as video games go, this is surely one of the better games available, but not the best.
Search for Clues, Question Suspects, Chase & Shoot down Crooks + Good Story
This is an AWESOME game if you like DETECTIVE work or PUZZLES. If your looking for a game like GTA, wrong tittle, their way different. You play as Detective Phelps as he shuffles through various desks that assign him cases that you will have to solve, which works your way up the ladder in the police force. BASICALLY finding CLUES, CHASING bad guys, INTERROGATING suspects and having SHOOT outs at various points in the story is the actual game. CASES are engaging though sometimes REPETITIVE but trying to solve the mystery and following the storyline makes up for it. And the gameplay, story and open world adds to the fun. However, interrogating is a skill to master. Search the net for some tips. So if you think you can enjoy investigating a crime scene and questioning suspects for clues/or the truth with various chases and shot outs, then this is your game.
Good Game

The body does not lie, but wrong
The body does not lie, but wrong The main attraction of "L.A. Noire ", and its setting, is how it works. This is a game that deals with the search for clues, intuition and perception of the player. You should look for evidence in every corner, and so have clues to discover who the killer is. One of the main features of the game lies in the way the player interacts with other characters in the game, especially when it comes to interrogate them. Phelps has three ways of approaching the respondent: believe, doubt or accuse him of lying. To arrive at these conclusions is necessary to keep an eye on the interviewee's facial expressions and analyze his attitude, because everything is represented in detail. Generally people do not feel comfortable lying to a cop, and this can be analyzed for their behavior to avoid, for example, direct eye contact, or gulping a sarcastic smile in the corner of his mouth. Only if it were that simple would not be fun. You must also assess the circumstances and state of mind that the respondent is because not all people can be direct when they receive bad news. A good example is a young girl who has just discovered that his mother died. As she is in shock, she hardly going to give solid answers. This will create an increasingly complex as Phelps goes up the career ladder. If you are unsure, you can use intuition, skill that can indicate what the right answers and the clues which prove that the interviewee is lying. These points are released intuition as you do the right questions and give a dynamic evolution essential to the game. Even though the game has a linearity, it is not as rigid as it sounds, because each person plays and face the facts of a very particular way. This provides different experiences for different players and that can generate interesting discussions about the ways that the cases were solved and it definitely changes the way to make the narrative of a game.
