Guitar Hero 5 for Sony PlayStation 2 is the fifth installment in the popular Guitar Hero series, offering an excellent playlist packed with music from many different genres. It also offers a variety of features that do not appear in previous games. Enjoy awesome opening and cut video sequences throughout the game. Like other Guitar Hero video games, Guitar Hero 5 lets you play lead guitar or other instruments in a digital rock band. You play along with the music and match notes in the guitar tracks as they scroll up the screen. When you play correct notes, you earn points while incorrect points reduces your score. Mastering a song boosts your score and builds up your Star Power. You can choose to play lead guitar, bass guitar, drums, or vocals. You can play with up to four players in a single session. This multi-instrument feature first appeared in Guitar Hero World Tour, but this version also lets you include multiple players on single instruments. You can play Guitar Hero 5 in single-player or multiplayer mode. In single-player mode, the gameplay involves building up Star Power. Quickplay Mode is a bonus feature that lets you put together your own set list and master it. Multiplayer mode lets you play with remote players or with friends on a local network. In multiplayer mode, each player earns separate Star Power, but your skills as a band still contribute towards Band Moments scores. Career Mode is available in both single-player and multiplayer modes. This feature involves going to venues to perform “live” shows with specific playlists and Challenges, which you or your band must master. Guitar Hero 5 also includes bonus modes and unlock options. Party Play involves playing random songs, letting you enjoy spontaneous gameplay. RockFest mode involves playing through 30-second snippets of songs with specific challenge modes assigned to each snippet. In the Music Studio setting, you can get crafty and create your own tunes by using samples, note recording, and mixing tools. Unlockables include avatars and clothing for your characters. This PlayStation game features a good playlist selection, including songs from Johnny Cash, Nirvana, Kings of Leon, Iggy Pop, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Weezer, Blur, and Queens of the Stone Age. Songs span several decades and genres, but rock music makes up the bulk of the playlist. You can also import songs from Guitar Hero World Tour, Smash Hits, and Metallica. Guitar Hero 5 for PS2 requires specialty accessories. Guitar controllers are a key part of the gameplay and make your gaming experience more realistic. These controllers feature elements of real guitars, such as realistic body shapes and whammy bars. You can find controllers in different colors, such as red, black, brown, and white. This version of the game also lets you play other instruments. Using these instruments requires bass guitar controllers, drum controllers, and microphones. The game does not require any additional software. | |

Good graphics
Compelling gameplay
Good value
Overall a great game
Another great game for all guitar hero fans. I bought this game a couple weeks ago, which arrived in perfect condition, and I must say I enjoy it very much. Awesome track list, some new game features, overall a very fun game that I would definitely recommend to others. A few cons of this game would be that it doesn't include all the extras and features like those in other platforms such as the PS3. The party mode is a bit useless, in my opinion, since you can't jump in and out of songs like it's suppose to do. There also wasn't the music studio feature. Load times are somewhat slow, but nothing much. Other than that, I think this game was a job well done. If your a fan of guitar hero, then you should get this one.
Guitar HERO 5
Guitar Hero 5's track list contains 85 songs by 83 separate artists, and like previous Guitar Hero games, several musicians with works in the game have been modeled through motion capture for avatars in the game, including Johnny Cash, Carlos Santana, Shirley Manson, Kurt Cobain, and Matthew Bellamy. The game continues to support the user-created music studio introduced in World Tour through GHTunes, and additional downloadable content for the game will be made available. A majority of existing downloadable tracks from World Tour are forward-compatible with Guitar Hero 5, along with selected tracks from World Tour and Guitar Hero Smash Hits. The game was well-received by reviewers who appreciated the improvements in the accessibility of the game, allowing players to immediately jump in and play without spending excessive time in the game's menus. Improvements to both the Career and competitive multiplayer modes were also highlights of the game. However, the game's track list was considered to be too broad, that while players will likely find a number of songs they enjoyed, they would also likely enough find a number that they would not like, and some controversy arose over the inclusion of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in the game.
Good songs, a little slow
Disk's in great condition, everything looks fine. Unfortunately the game itself obviously wasn't designed around ps2 hardware and is slower than World Tour loading wise, and both have notable stuttering for me during gameplay.

It is what it is....
A goofy game where you get to be Kurt Cobain...he'd probably hate it, but for Nirvana fans like my girlfriend, its one of those no-brainer games that can be fun...

PS2 Guitar Hero 5 Bundle? Underrated?? Yes!!!
To be honest, I'm really new at Guitar Hero stuff.. if I stumbled upon this great game was because I heard there were some of my favorite rock songs from my early teenage years... Nirvana, Rammstein, Blur, BON Jovi, among others. Graphics - Graphically the game is the best in the series for the ps2, you can create your own hero customize it with a lot of unlockable content as well, and it looks very slick while you're hammering you're favorite tunes. Though I still have to acquire the Metallica for PS2 as well, I have heard it's the best, I'll put that to the test in my next review. 8/10 GamePlay/Controllers - Hmm.. I was really skeptical that a Ps3 guitar would work on the long gone ps2 system, but to my surprise it's probably the best feeling of the guitar itself that made me stick with it. It has just around the perfect weight and level of difficulty for a guitar, though as I have mentioned earlier I am very new at this.. but I started playing out in medium and so far I'm loving it.. The Controllers are really responsive and I've been almost 10 feet away from the tv and the wireless usb adapter does the job exceptionally. 10/10 Content - The track-list is to me the most enjoyable, there are also a lot of unlockable characters, Santana Kurt Cobain, Shirley Manson, etc,. I have plaid around half of the game and I am very impressed with the songs available. Who doesn't love Teen Spirit by Nirvana?? or Song # 2 by Blur.. or who wouldn't want to go crazy jamming Du Hast by Rammstein.. we also have a few from The White Stripes. my son's favorite song from Flushed Away also, Dancing with My Self from Billy Idol, and also another great track from Gorillaz, Feel Good, Inc. Overall there's a song for everyone in the game. though I'm not a really knowledgeable rock fanatic I really love most of the tracks in the game, but probably the one that does it for me,is In My Place by ColdPlay, such an awesome feeling that track. I give it a 9/10 for content. Extras - The Game itself has a ton of extra stuff to unlock (I've named a few so far) but there's plenty of stuff to do, and probably the coolest thing after World tour is that you can hammer with 3 more of your buddies and have 2 guitarists and 2 bassists, which makes me much more enjoyable and watch them raw at each other when someone goes off key.. (it's hilarious seriously!!) 8/10 Overall - I guess I came a bit too late on the Guitar Hero era, but even though I paid about a quarter of the retail price (which msrp goes for 89.99 bucks) I probably would have paid it in full.. it is well worth it. For those mates out there who have any of the next gen console, it's really well worth the penny.. Hope this was helpful, but afterall anyone can say what's wrong and what's bad, but for some it might be the other way around, so I suggest to get it if you can find it, since it's becoming a rare title if you can. Overall Score - 9/10
