God of War is an action-oriented adventure game with a strong focus on fast-paced combat. Players take control of Kratos, a mystically powerful hero in the ancient Greece of classic mythology. Kratos can perform super-human leaps, agile dodges, and magically enhanced combo attacks, which all flow together in a stream of intense engagement. The fast-paced, over-the-top fighting, combined with the tense environments and computer-directed camera angles, give gameplay the feel of combat-adventures such as Devil May Cry or Otogi. Unlike those earlier blends of survival-horror presentation and combat-minded control schemes, however, God of War is set in a world more immediately familiar to all fans of western fantasy. The ultimate goal of Kratos is a conclusive confrontation with Ares -- the god of war himself -- but the hero must face a deadly succession of monsters and villains from Greek mythology as he pursues this end. The Hydra, Medusa, the Cyclops, the Minotaur, and other legendary creatures will all have their chances to destroy Kratos before he meets his final destiny. As God of War begins, players see Kratos high atop the tallest mountain in the land. They watch as he calmly steps forward off the cliff's edge, in a determined, desperate act of suicide. As the cursed hero begins his decent toward what seems an inevitable, gruesome death, a flashback fades into the story's beginning. Only by playing through Kratos' adventure will players learn what led the hero to take that step toward oblivion. By playing well, they may perhaps yet influence his final fate. |

Good graphics
Compelling gameplay
Good value
This should be the template for future games developers
Even if your a complete die hard XBX or Gamecube fan, you still can't help but give props to the PS2 hardware once again. Very few games in this genre ever get lucky enough to be considered "epic", and this game IS epic. Everything from the eye popping landscapes to the ginormous beasts is just fantastic, did I say fantastic, I meant "friggen awesome!" I'm not the biggest fan when it comes to platforming (The idea of timing your jumps on unrealistic floating platforms and elevating pedestals never sat right with me) but for some reason I didn't mind it with GoW, infact just about every platforming sequence fit right in with the game, and a big plus...they were never too difficult! Like Devil May Cry, the real kicker with God of War lay within the sheer simplicity of it's controls. Granted it doesn't take a genius to pull off a few pretty combos while button mashing, but with some patience an average gamer can string along 30-50 or even 100pt high damage combos with finese. And there are literally thousands of combinations to choose from. Lest we not forget all that cool magic and weapon upgrades you get to choose from, it's just refreshing. My only real gripe is the continue screen you get if you die too often within a certain period of time. It's an inconspicuously different screen that the developers threw in to "help" if your experiencing some difficulty. It'll ask if you want to put your game on "Easy Mode" (assuming you didn't already select easy mode ya wuss). Well if your anything like me and got used to clicking them buttons pretty damn fast so-as you can get back to your game after the 11-teenth fall from that cliff, you'll most likely do as I did and accidentally click "Yes" some where along the line. This will land your game in a persistant easy mode state from which you cannot change back, it sucks. I was also kinda hoping for some additional downloadable content for my hard drive (the very same HD I recently brought for that glamorized version of an AOL chat room called FFXI), oh well.
Hacky slashy blood n' death with a little sex too.
In spite of my persistence to not go with the crowd and ignore God of War while trying to broaden my horizons as far as my gaming experiences go I must admit that my curiosity got the better of me after the sequel came out and my God of War fan-boy friends wouldn't be quiet about it so I decided to give it a whirl and see how many minotaurs I could carve up before I was completely desensitized to blood. It turns out quite a few minotaurs were killed and it may have been enjoyable along the way at certain points. I'll admit that God of War is by no means a bad game. The controls were tight and intuitive and there were a variety of ways that I was able to decapitate my violence fodder foes. The story is not the worst I've ever heard but then again I've never really cared for Greek mythology. Basically a muscular guy named Kratos became somewhat of a contractor for Aeries, the God of War (hint hint) and while on a murder fest he kills his family. Being the vengeful type, Kratos then goes on a quest to kill Aeries involving all sorts of other Greek myths. At one point he dies along the way and fights his way outta hell just to build a more stable foundation of badassery. Like I mentioned before the combat is fluid and violent like a bloody sacrifice and there are combos that can be added on to so killing things never gets old. The level design is my only irritant. Some seemed like they were just padding to try and keep the game rolling for a few more minutes. One part in particular was where I needed to wander through a desert with zero visibility and try to kill three sirens (the mythical beast and not the police ones I hear at my neighbor's house on a daily basis) so I could unlock a gate to progress. It took me over an hour to wander through, find them and kill them even though it was a relatively small area they were hidden in. Also there are a lot of underwater tunnels you'll need to swim through and running out of air killed me more than any of the other fights combined. On a final note this game is not for kids. Just in case there's someone jumping on the bandwagon later than me and might be thinking of getting it for a kid relative as a present, there is a playable sex scene. Try explaining that one to the kid's parent when they walk in the room to have the kid ask "what is that he's doing to the two women?"
Perfection for my collection
I’ve never played this game but I always wanting too but being underage when the PlayStation 2 was still popular I couldn’t play it but now I’m 26 I’m finally able to play it and finally experience it for my own 💜 and it’s going to looks great with the rest of my collection as well 😎👌🏽

A fun, mythological game!
God of War is a fun game about Greek Mythology. A character named "Kratos" fights his way in order to free himself from his master. God of War gives any gamer a wild ride of levels, puzzles, monsters, "boss fights", and endless mayhem. The music is amazing, because it has that ancient feeling that takes you to Greek times. The music is very intense during "boss fights", which will make anybody fight the "boss" until its dead. The graphics may look "weird", but the graphics are good for its time (Game released in 2005). The graphics are colorful, creative, smooth (Especially the "movie scenes"), and the best part is, it takes any gamer to the imaginative world of the Greeks. The story is cliche, but nevertheless the gamer may want to know more about Kratos, and his quest for freedom. Overall, the game is fun, and I recommend this game to any gamer. Especially to gamers who haven't played the God of War series.
