A Must See for everyone !!!
This movie is a "MUST SEE" for every Christian person and religious leaders of "ALL" faiths. This documents and shows how most all Christian faiths have used "word for word" writings in the Bible to discriminate, and persecute people of difference through out history. Previously Blacks back in the sixties, now currently gays & Lesbians. If we truly practiced every word and phase that is in the Bible, we would all be dead or selling our children into slavery or death by mere fact of their actions. If we would "ALL" practice the basic principles that Jesus lived his life by, we would all be living in total harmony in this world. Jesus accepted "ALL" peoples regardless of their sins. We are "ALL" God's children and should all be given the rights and gifts of his love. Can we really persecute others because we may not understand another's differences? Unless you are Jesus himself, I think not. There is not a single one of us in this world that is without sin. All those who persecute others in this world will truly be judged for their actions come their judgment day. Sincere Blessings on "ALL" his people. David Gingras
Excellent. Ideal for High School or College classroom.
An excellent, award-winning documentary exploring the relationship between homosexuality and religion. The film tells the story of 5 different families from varying denominations, each of whom had to deal with a family member's homosexuality. The "coming out" stories are especially compelling, and the family reactions ranged from full acceptance to grudging tolerance. The issue of homophobia is covered very well, as are the various passages in the Bible relating to homosexuality. The film-makers interview a number of Biblical scholars about the real meaning of said passages. Also covered are the subjects of "reparative therapy" and the evidence suggesting a biological basis for homosexuality. There is a story of one parent who rejected her daughter after her daughter came out to her. Her daughter's subsequent suicide is one of the most tragic stories in the film. Another family is a victim of repeated vandalism after their son comes out while still in high school. The clips of James Dobson and other televangelists preaching against gays are chilling. Overall, the film is excellent and well worth watching. A valuable addition to any public, school or church library.
A good place to start
Being a Christian and having several gay and lesbian friends, I have had to wrestle through the issue of homosexuality. In purchasing this video I was seeking a biblically honest discussion of the topic without bias one way or the other. While I did not find this film to be without bias, I did find the positions and reasonings helpful as I continue my study on this difficult subject. I would have to say this film was more of a help in clarifying questions than it was in providing answers. On both sides of the fence I detected what I would call "error and faulty reason and logic", which in some ways was a dissapointment but ultimately forced me to think all the more. I would not say this movie will answer all the questions or resolve the rift between the church and the GLBT community. It does serve well as a springboard for further discussion and study, and with that goal in mind (along with with the understanding that the movie is biased against the traditional church point of view), I can recommend this movie. As I said, my study is ongoing so I offer the best of luck with others dealing with this challenging topic.
For the Bible Tells Me So (2008) DVD
This is a must see for anyone gay or straight to see how religion can have both a positive effect on people as well as a negative effect. It consists of several parallel stories of gays and how they managed their way through varing levels of acceptance or rejection by their families and or churches. One story is extremely powerful and positive and another is completely tragic. I would like to re-edit the DVD to have the stories be consecutive rather than parallel. That is my particular pet peeve about going to the movies and seeing one of those crazy timeline movies that keep doubling back on themselves. I do not like that style. The stories are so powerful, however, that the parallel story telling is tolerable even for someone as picky as myself. "Two Thumbs Up".
informative and interestin
This dvd depicts families who have been confronted with issues of a child being gay or lesbian and how they viewed and handled it. In today's society, I think it would be a good idea to view this for any family who suspects their child's sexual orientation. I feel like it also shows that gay people are not evil or nasty, just average people who come from every background who just so happen to love someone of the same sex. Some insight into biblical views and interpretation of the bible and history of interpretation itself. Very informative.
