FAST FOOD NATION is director Richard Linklater's big screen adaptation of Eric Schlosser's best-selling book, which exposes the evils of corporate fast-food production. Co-written by Linklater and Schlosser, the film presents a wide tapestry of characters whose lives are all affected in one way or another by Mickey's, a fictionalized fast-food chain. At the top of the chain sits Don Henderson (Greg Kinnear), a Mickey's marketing VP who is shocked to discover that a high fecal count has shown up in his company's burgers. Sylvia (Catalina Sandino Moreno), Raul (Wilmer Vilderrama), and Coco (Ana Claudia Talancon) are illegal Mexican immigrants who have found employment in the grotesque plant that produces those same burgers, working under the evil watch of supervisor Mike (Bobby Cannavale). Ashley (Amber Johnson) works the counter at a local Mickey's, but when she befriends a group of politically charged college students (Lou Taylor Pucci, Avril Lavigne), she thinks twice about her job. Along the way, several more characters are introduced (played by Kris Kristofferson, Ethan Hawke, and Bruce Willis), who voice the concerns expressed in Schlosser's nonfiction account. Linklater takes a leisurely approach to his otherwise in-your-face material, allowing certain stories to play themselves out before moving on to another. The result is a film that sneaks up on viewers. However, by the time it reaches its powerful conclusion, the filmmakers' point becomes painfully clear. | |

Fast Food Nation
An inside look into the fast food industry from different viewpoints; 1. A corporate executive investigating unsanitary conditions inside one of the meat packing plants or slaughterhouses 2. A teenage girl employed in one of the chain's many restaurants and how her job begins to affect her and her own friends 3. A group of undocumented, illegal Mexican laborers who are employed at the slaughterhouse and how they cope with their day to day lifestyles 4. A local rancher whose livestock provides cattle for the local meat plant 5. A cocky meat plant supervisor who hires young Hispanic women and uses them for his own sexual enjoyment I watched the movie based on the non-fiction book of the same title by Eric Schlosser which I have also read and I came away quite impressed overall. The script is very realistic and hard hitting much like the book and the main characters are played well by several well known actors including Greg Kinnear, Esai Morales, Bruce Willis, Kris Kristofferson, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Wilmer Valderrama. The movie touches on several aspects of the fast food industry which I have mentioned above and I recommend it to any who would care to see this film or who has read the book. Very entertaining and hard hitting as well. triumphchap
If this movie does't make you think twice about diet -
I don't know what will. We are what we eat and its never been more true than it is now with processed foods! Its difficult finding *real* food anymore that hasn't been pulverized and regurgitated into facsimiles of food! Buy local foods when at all possible and leave fast food for a rare treat if that. I find its SO salty and over sweetened anymore its not pleasant to eat. Did you know they have discovered a process to turn dark poultry meat [among others] into 'white' meat? Its ground, pulverized and bleached then 'glued' in a manner of speaking back into a marketable white meat product. Beware the McFake foods being served now! Educate yourself! Read labels! Buy ethically raised local meats... sure it costs more; its also less likely to cause serious illness and kidney failure...or death.
Great Wake Up Call makes you Re-think.
I bought this movie because i didnt have a chance to go see it in theater and because one of my favorite artist plays a short role in the movie (Avril Lavigne). Adults only: it is an educational movie but is kinda of (sexually explicit) which is not good for kids and the way the kill cows, WHO kills them, the way the process the meat. These brings out the truth in the big corporations and what they do to cut costs.
Beware of ending!
I bought this DVD for two reason. First my favorite actor and singer was in it. KRIS KRISTOFFERSON. In fact he was the best part in the movie. Second I hate the way animals are treated on their way to the slaughter house and the way they get treated in the kill-room. People should be aware of this. My heart goes out to animals like this. Afterall they are giving up their life so we can eat. The least a person can do is treat them with as much kindness and respect as possible. Plus the danger of working in one of these places is very high. Make sure not to let young children watch it because of some gruesome parts. This movie had me very upset and in tears after watching the ending. All in all the movie was somewhat boring but will have you thinking in the end.
Not really matching the content
I felt there were scenes that could have been left out like the sex ones, but instead just giving us the idea of what happens... But overall it was very good in explaining the trap that our brothers who share our continent have to suffer and how bad things must be in their own country to endure such things here. The unedible meat came as no surprise since knowing about the hormones, diseases, and now the knowledge of ecoli! I have been a vegan for 35 years! The film was very real and very well done. I loved the motive of the directors and the hard work that went into it from all involved.
