From the developers of the Professor Layton series, Fantasy Life offers a mix of traditional RPG adventure and tranquil village living. Gamers create a custom character, and then select from 12 different Life paths before setting off on an adventure to help save the land of Reveria. Each Life offers unique abilities, with the Hunter, Magician, Mercenary, and Paladin specializing in different kinds of combat, the Angler, Miner, and Woodcutter adept at gathering materials, and the Alchemist, Blacksmith, Carpenter, Cook, and Tailor capable of crafting hundreds of different items. Each Life comes with specific challenges that, once completed, reward players with stars that can be used to unlock new skills. Gamers can also earn Bliss by taking on challenges from the butterfly companion Flutter, or acquire the currency Dosh and experience points by helping townspeople. There are hundreds of different items to acquire of craft, with some objects affecting the character's stats, and others serving as potential home furnishings. As players advance through the game they can meet and unlock allies and pets to accompany them on quests, and they can even choose to lead a new Life in the middle of their game, opening up new opportunities in each of Reveria's locations. |

I wasn't planning on buying this game. I'm not a huge fan of games like Animal Crossing or Sims, and that's what it looked like to me. My friend finally let me borrow his copy... and I played late into the night. It's that good! I bought it myself, but I was surprised at how little the value has dropped since the first distribution. Honestly, I think it's because no one wants to sell their copy. The gameplay is primarily a standard gaming RPG with a storyline, party, stats, abilities, bonus missions, etc. However, it is rare in that you can change your class at will. This allows you to be a completionist almost on your first run-through. There are NG+, which I feel always add to the replay value. The plot is neither predictable nor groundbreaking. It has a high replay value and it is easy to spend 50+ hours on one slot. This game is well worth both your time and your money. I would recommend it to both expert gamers and hobbyists.

Liked Animal Crossing graphics? Love RPG? Then Fantasy Life is for you. - Extensive maps for a DS console game, fluid characters movements and effects - Various monsters and bosses with different difficulties levels - 12 classes: 4 fighter, 4 collectors, 4 creators -- It's lengthy mastering all of them, especially in trying to get the best equipment. I found that party members have higher stats than the MC at the same level even though the MC can attack quicker. - Pretty good MC character customization! Reminds me of making a Mii. - Playful storyline that's pretty lengthy, mostly due to efforts in raising fighting power. Two save slots. - Fighting monsters and getting drops are pretty addictive. - Only real downside is repetitive crafting until it can be mastered+automated. - Furniture isn't as nearly expansive as Animal Crossing, but it's decent enough. - Tons of storage and bag space that can be increased through Bliss (essentially upgrade) system. Overall, easy to play RPG with difficulty mostly being increasing MC's stats. Fishing is actually more difficult here! Expect to be a true patient fisher when taking on new fish bosses...

This game captured my heart
The game is very charming with nice graphics and fairly simple mechanics. Each of the classes are fairly fun to use and each character has access to all of them which is pretty rare in a class-based RPG type game. It's nice, though, because it lets you easily craft your own armor, weapons, and supplies. All you have to do is gather the materials. There's plenty of humor in the game as well. Overall, very very fun.

Good writing, life/job system, and customization; worth its price!
Very good 3DS title if you can get it at less than $40, especially if you purchase the expansion. Great writing, characters, and interactions between lives (jobs). Very fondly remember my first playthrough and enjoying the story. Customization is also a nice plus. Note that it WILL get repetitive if you plan to 100% all the different lives, but that can be said of most all games. Highly recommend this game for imaginative/creative teens and young adults.

Awesome game
I've played a lot of games in my time but I must say that fantasy life holds a special place in my top 5 games of all times,let's make this more visual Final Fantasy 6 Chrono trigger Final Fantasy 2 Legend of Zelda: a link to the past Fantasy life Fantasy life's story is infused with quirky characters and a literal laugh out loud script that will have you returning to the land of Reveria time and time again in search for adventure. The life system is much like a job system you would find in the final Fantasy series. Jump into the shoes of a blacksmith and create your own armor and weapons or become a tailor and create clothes for your magician job. The combat system is a lot like Zelda a link to the past in terms of having control of your customized character to dodge enemy attacks as well as attacking freely. Combat has not been limited to a basic hack and slash, the 4 combat jobs ; mercenary, paladin, archer and magician, have the ability to expand their array of attacks by completing quests in according to their job. I'm sure there are somethings I'm forgetting to mention about fantasy life, but I'll say this; if you like a fleshed out customization system, crafting, adventuring, pitting yourself against huge bosses or a story with extremely likeable characters, fantasy life is definitely the game that will deliver.
