One of the most requested sequels to an NES game finally has been developed: Excitebike has received its 64-bit upgrade. Coming from Left Field Productions, developer of NBA Courtside, is Nintendo's latest entry into the sports world. Excitebike 64 takes advantage of the current Supercross/Motocross craze.
Excitebike 64 emphasizes arcade-style racing instead of simulation-type realism. In fact, the turbo system from the original game has been included. Turbo is needed for victory, but using it increases the RPMs on your bike. Use too much turbo and your bike will overheat. Although Excitebike 64 doesn't feature real tracks or real riders, it does feature real sponsors, including Bell Helmets, Thor, Scott USA, Fox Racing and others.
Up to four players can participate in a variety of play modes -- some of which must be opened by progressing further into the game. A Season mode with different cups of tracks and different levels of difficulty is available for one player. A Tutorial exists to teach you how to take bends, how to use turbo, and how to perform special tricks. A multi-player Exhibition race is available for up to four players. A Time Trial mode lets a single player race against the clock. A selection of Special Tracks, such as the original Excitebike and a multi-player Soccer mode, can be unlocked from the Season mode. A Custom Track feature, a hallmark of the original game, has been included for designing indoor courses, too.
While you can design and save your own custom tracks, Excitebike 64 does feature 20 pre-made tracks that span indoor arenas and outdoor courses. Additionally, you can choose from six male or female riders who have different abilities in the categories of landing, jumping, cornering, and turbo. Each rider can perform over a dozen tricks, having standard moves such as the Nac Nac, Heel Clicker, Saran Wrap, No Hander, etc., as well as performing their own special moves.
Expansion Pak owners can enjoy letterboxed high-resolution races by switching on the "Hi-Res" feature in the Options screen. It can't be used in the multi-player, Tutorial, or Special Tracks modes, though. Rumble Pak and Controller Pak support has been included, too. The Rumble Pak vibrates for the different surfaces and when landing. Even though an EEPROM chip is built into the cartridge to save season progress and best times, a Controller Pak is required to save ghost data from the Time Trials and to save any Custom Track

Great Classic Game
After I found out about the recent remake of the original Excitebike for WiiWare, I decided to seek out this N64 entry in the series. This game has much more in common with the original then the Excite games on the Wii, meaning that it is hard and more focused on realistic jumps rather then the craziness that is ExciteTruck and ExciteBots. The game has standard arena courses and some out door ones as well. The outdoor levels actually do venture into a little fantasy, but still it is overall grounded. Each of the levels is designed to be challenging and yet still fun to race on. The graphics are terrible by today's standards, but look pretty good for an N64 era game. I haven't yet managed yet to beat the game as it does get very hard near the end, but I will keep on trying. The more you play through the game, the more extras you can unlock. To me this was actually the best feature of the game. These bonus levels are each very unique and sometimes very challenging as well. It even includes the original ExciteBike in case you missed it on the NES.
If you've been playing videogames as long as I have, you should have no problem remembering back to the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System and, more specifically, to a little classic called Excitebike. The 2D side-scrolling racer, while simplistic in design, was one of the very best games the system had to offer thanks to clever and addictive gameplay mechanics that did their best to mimic reality despite the limits of the technology. It looked great for the time, felt great for the time, and was a whole lot of fun. Now Nintendo has contracted developer Left Field Studios (Kobe Bryant's NBA Courtside) to create the 64-bit update to the Excitebike franchise. The California based software house has not only perfectly recaptured the spirit of the classic for this jaw-dropping N64 adaptation, but upraised a fantastic 3D engine around it, and doused everything with buckets of wonderful new extras too. Extras like a superb physics engine, unequaled graphics, deliciously deep control, a tempting four-player mode, dead-on audio and enough courses and bonuses to keep gamers racing happy for a long time to come. All of this comes together for what IGN64 feels is the best Nintendo 64 racing experience to be had thus far, rivaling Nintendo's own Wave Race 64. Features * Track editor enables players to build courses from scratch with plenty of jumps, tabletops and dips. * 20 tracks with six stadium, stunt tracks, and six outdoor rally tracks. * Realistic physics engine. * Authentic rider animations for crashes, jumps and knocks. * More than a dozen outrageous tricks. * Several types of motorbikes. * Adjustable camera angles for capturing the best racing and stunt action. * Four-player simultaneous support. * 4MB Expansion Pak compatible for optional high-resolution mode. * Licenses include Bell Helmets, Thor, Scott USA, Shoei, and FMF. * Classic Excitebike included. Excitebike is one of Nintendo's classic franchises so developer Left Field Studios had a lot to live up to when creating this 64-bit sequel. The good news is that it only takes 10 minutes with this game to know that the team at Left Field has done its homework. Excitebike 64 not only lives up to the classic it was inspired by, it takes it all to the next level with a fantastic 3D engine, delightfully realistic physics, intuitive control, brilliantly detailed graphics, ingenious subtleties and tons of options. An excellent selection of varied tracks will keep the single-player mode going strong and multiplayer nuts will go wild over the Up Hill Climb, Soccer, and Stunt Track modes. This game has it all. Simply put, Excitebike 64 and Wave Race are the best racing games available for Nintendo 64. If Left Field can pull this off for Nintendo 64, I can't wait to see what it has in store for Dolphin! Snap this one up right now. 9.7 ( 1 of the Top 10 Games for the N64 )
What a great deal for a not for resale. It is very mint overall, with the back sticker being the mintiest I have ever seen! Fantastic collectible piece! The game has beta content and is different from the release, so it makes it much more great. Cheers!

One of the N64 gems!
Excitebike 64 stays so true to it's roots that it even included an unlockable nes excitebike original (along with a few other things to unlock like soccer, hillclimb, 3D..) The concept is simple- Race to win. However, to do that it requires you to master the controls which takes time. Once you do you will feel like a pro, zipping in front of or taking out other racers, hitting huge jumps with ease, pulling off tricks, etc. One of the best n64 games late in the consoles life. Not to be missed!
delivered quick and the game is great! there is no physical damage, but there was some discoloration on the back (not really important). the graphic are great! ...for a 64 game. ;)
