Square's Final Fantasy series makes its 32-bit debut with Final Fantasy VII, a role-playing game blending 3D polygonal characters, pre-rendered backgrounds, and animated cut-scenes across three discs. Lead protagonist Cloud Strife's memory is as murky as the quality of life in the city of Midgar, where a resistance movement named Avalanche targets the apparent source of the problem: the Shin-Ra Electric Power Company. Cloud will join Avalanche as he seeks to piece together his past, kicking off an adventure spanning three continents. Cloud will intersect with an assortment of characters along the way, including a mysterious, silver-haired adversary named Sephiroth. Gameplay is divided into three distinct phases: travel across a world map; exploration from a close-up view of an area; and a 3D battle screen that pits your party against the enemy. Enemy encounters employ a turn-based, active time-battle system, where players decide to attack, use items, or cast magic within a short window of time. A crystal-like energy source called materia can be found in your travels and attached to equipment, granting characters access to new skills or the ability to summon powerful creatures. Your party consists of three heroes selected from a potential pool of nine. In addition to the main quest, you can participate in mini-games ranging from snowboarding and boxing to creature breeding and arm wrestling. |

Good graphics
Compelling gameplay
Good value
This one stays unopened
This game alone has rocked the RPG world. There is so much relation to the story to todays world. The story is so deep it's as this game were a prophcy to happen but stays with US (who played) like an omen. It gets a 5 star rating. But, this game did not solo smooth out the RPG world for credit of all RPGs. But the fact is believed the greatest RPG of it's time. Back in the 1980s were such as dungeons and dragons that were the 'main' reasons behind the Growth of the RPG world. But you will need a love for RPG games all around to have a taste for story lines and less impressive graphics and respect for retro playing and/or history to enjoy the earlier RPGs. start with looking up SSI (company) or D&D (trade mark), these are now owned by wizards of the coast (company). And please. enjoy the game - game on....

Final Fantasy is finally back
The story is wonderful, and I actually really liked the controversial ending. Set in the brief beginning portion of the original, Remake puts a lot more detail into the events of that portion of the story. This leads to what was originally a roughly 5-hour area in the original feel like a full-length Final Fantasy title. The battle system is particularly fun, successfully blending real-time action with the slow, menu-based combat from past games. The visuals and music are also a very strong part of the game, which is a staple of the Final Fantasy series. In summary, this game was worth every penny, and I’m very glad I was able to play it.

Final Fantasy VII
I bought this as a gift for my cousin and he loved it. It shipped in a sturdy box, and it came with everything pictured. All three discs were in very good condition along with the original manual which was also in very good condition. The game came in its original black label case, and each disc plays as if they were new. Super happy!!!

The best RPG to ever hit the Playstation.
While i'm sure every Castlevania:SOTN fan will disagree this was and always will be the most influential RPG to hit the Playstation. This was my first RPG as well, so my baseline is high. The graphics weren't even close to groundbreaking in anyway, the true quality is in the story line. In 20 years I've not seen one FF come close to this, although VIII will always have a special place in my heart.

Final Fantasy 7 vs. DS Final Fantasy 4
I recently got a Nintendo DSi and picked up Chrono Trigger and FFIV. I finished CT and am at the final boss in FFIV. Having enjoyed my personal revival of RPG's I decided to look into FFVII since I was 19 when it game out but never played it. I am only 20 hours in so I can't give a full review, but it has been fairly enjoyable so far. The graphics are similar to a DSi title so it is a natural transition. The overall story is o.k. There are some really wierd characters that for me kind of take me out of the story line a bit, a talking fortune telling machine with a cat riding it's back? That's a little odd. All things considered though it is a fun experience. That being said I would say this game is best for the hardcore rpg fan. The graphics are rough to look at and there isn't much guidance in game as to what to do and where to go. Plus, if you don't use a strategy guide you are going to miss probably 60% of the game. It's also a little easy on the combat but difficult in that if you miss something you often can't get it later in the game. I accidentaly sold an item early in the game, and come to find out it's the only place in the entire game, like an hour in that you can get that item. I'm now left to play 60+ hours or so without it, or throw away 20 hours of gameplay and start over. So final verdict FF7 vs. FF4 on the DS, I would say FF4 on the DS is the better game today, but if you are a hardcore type you will not be dissapointed with FF7.
