Captain America: Super Soldier is an action-driven adventure game, created in conjunction with the 2011 feature film, The First Avenger, and inspired by more than 70 years of Marvel Comics mythology. Players control Cap through third-person sequences of free-flowing combat, exploration, and infiltration, employing his enhanced strength, super-human agility, and expertise with his special shield. Regularly outnumbered by multiple foes, the hero can string together combo attacks for extra damage. Although the full game is rendered with polygonal 3D graphics, some acrobatically oriented sequences are presented from a side-scrolling perspective by default, for more precise platform-jumping control. Captain America's shield is useful not only for blocking attacks, but for reflecting gunfire back at attackers as well. The shield can be thrown, like an oversized discus, to take down opponents from a distance and to activate remote switches. The hero can also make tactical use of stationary objects, and even enemy characters, as he battles through each new area. Experience points collected throughout play are used to purchase upgraded powers. Enemies become more sophisticated as the adventure progresses, but the game can be played with relatively simple, accessible controls. Advanced players can attempt more demanding "Zola Challenges" along the way, for additional experience and glory. Although the plotline and play style are similar across all platform versions, the PlayStation 3 edition of the game can be played in stereoscopic 3D on compatible television equipment. Following other movie-based games starring future Avengers -- including Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk -- Captain America: Super Soldier is published by Sega. As hinted in the subtitle, the game involves the hero's origin story, and follows him on a World War II-era assault against Red Skull, his enduring arch-enemy. Along the way, Cap faces other recurring comic book foes, including Iron Cross and the elite soldiers of the Hydra army. The game's story is by Christos Gage, a lead writer of Marvel's Avenger: The Initiative comics. |

A fun rental that makes you feel like a real Super Soldier!!!
Captain America takes to the stage Arkham Asylum style in his latest game. How does that work out for him? There are probably some mixed feelings here but I believe they're mostly on the positive side. Strong execution on the basic and critical moves leave you feeling like Captain America just enough to forgive the poor execution on some of his signature moves like the Shield Charge. There's a nice little story in this mix but it's a shame that not all the original actors are voicing their characters but the majority are. Now for the details. $$$ Pros + Controls well enough but it's no Arkham Asylum. + Shield throwing is really fun. + Makes you really feel the power of Captain America. ///Cons - Not always linear enough. Lots of backtracking. - Some of the power moves don't control well like the Shield Charge. - Kind of on the short side. Took less than a day for 100% completion. ===Verdict Rent before you buy. Even hardcore fans might have their fill of this game once it's at 100%. The only reason you might play through again is to test out the different costumes but there's only 3. I like this game but it's got it's flaws. 7/10

Not the worst superhero game out there.
I was definitely surprised at the combat and voice acting in the game. Made for a cool gift to a superhero/action game player. Not your greatest game. But had some decent moments. Worth a $20 or less price tag.

Short but sweet
Captain America Super Soldier was a good game. It’s entertainment value was good, gameplay was good and controls were good. The game was short but sweet!

Overall it's an entertaining game for fans of the movie and comic book.
It's a fun game with great visuals, but how much you enjoy it depends on how much of a fan you are of Captain America. As a video game on its own, this may fall flat in some areas (repetitive gameplay), but as a game based on a licensed property, it's actually pretty good. Captain America is spot on, his movement, character model, and dialogue (voiced by Captain America actor Chris Evans) are perfect. I had a lot of fun upgrading the captain's abilities and finding the most effective way to take down enemies. There's a ton of bonus content: hidden story footage, character artwork, trophies, etc., and the enviroments are detailed and add a lot to the WWII era atmosphere. Way better than the Iron Man games, but not as good as the Incredible Hulk game. I'd recommend it for fans only.

It was better than I thought it would be. I never even heard of this game until two weeks ago and I'm glad I did.
